Just that number. Just— Dead. Fucking. Silence.

I heard the clicking of camera shutters, but no one called the ambulance. My blood drained dry. My body became cold. Finally, Yvette Skye was no more. I died all alone at the corner of the street. No one cared. My corpse was not a pretty sight. My eyes were wide, unseeing, and there was a large hole in my stomach. My legs were twisted together. One of my arms was flung by the side of the road. My legs were useless now. I was ugly. No wonder the little girl cried. Floating in the air, I stared at my mutilated corpse.

Janelle’s POV The dead don’t hunt the living - the living hunt the living. Fun fact, a hunter can always turn prey. But speaking of prey… What if I just got married to a predator? I come out of the massive bathroom, big enough to fit in a queen-sized bed with a towel wrapped around my head. I look at the large room in front of me and I almost feel intimidated. My room is large with cream-coloured high walls and bright silver chandeliers hanging gracefully from the intimidating ceiling.

“This is the last time I am asking!” Kevin started laughing an evil laugh, “Your girlfriend’s old place. He built it back up and there is an underground tunnel you will never find!” Kevin laughed as blood spewed from his mouth. The blood on the ground was pooling up and running down the drain as he took his last breath. After a minute, his body slumped over and Kevin was dead. “Alrighty boys. Have fun cleaning that up and I suggest you wear gloves.” Kyle said as he smiled at me.

I don’t know why, but something is rotten in my gut and it’s never wrong. We storm through the building, Roddy’s being the last room at the end of the long ass hallway. The door is locked and Grouch sticks his ear to it, then backs up and kicks it open. The immediate stench of death I know all too well hits my nose and I can’t believe nobody has noticed it. It’s at least fifteen doors from mine. Missile and Grouch storm in, but I can already see the lifeless body of Ryan “Roddy” Grimes on the bed. I step in the room and see a needle sticking right out of his fucking arm. His skin is already discolored, he’s been dead a couple days. And nobody even realized it. Some brotherhood we are.

“There’s a false wall here, in one of the corners. Emma told me about it. It’s where kids hide out when the pool closes, and then they slip out to swim after hours.” I search the corners past the lockers, and my eyes land on what I’m looking for. Instead of four walls in this room, there are five. Boxes are stacked next to the shortest one. “Hold on.” I leave Alec leaning against a locker and push the boxes to the side. Just as I expected, there’s a crawl space there. “Get in here.” “Winter.” He stops to look in my eyes. “Be careful.” “I will be.” I swallow against a lump in my throat. “And I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

Ciph said. Two panels from the wall opened up, one releasing slaughterhouse and the other releasing Cynosore. “Consider this a thank you for maintaining the Ciphiner for so long, “The designer said. “Being reunited with you friend is however bitter sweet. For now you have two options so die by the hands of my reapers or kill your teammate. “Good luck with that,” Ciph said with a grin. “Deuces,” A blue force field emerged above slaughterhouse and Cyrosore, cutting us of from the designer and Ciph as the Ceiling opened up allowing them to fly out of the fusion hub.

What he needed most is the strength of all his senses. Suddenly, a loud voice has been heard, “Welcome everyone to the most-awaited, ‘Game of Fangs and Death’. Remember, this game is for five nights and only one among our twenty-two players will survive. The winner as a prize will be given a free pass and will be led to a secret passage, away from here, and at the end of that secret passage is the ocean where one of the submarines of the Alpha Pharoah is being docked and waiting for him.”

It was his lifeline. "System. Scrap it." Jake pressed his hand against the cold fuselage. [Detecting...] [Player owner deceased. Decomposition possible.] [Scrapping target: Military Helicopter.] [Warning: Target size is massive. Decomposition estimated time: 3 minutes.] "Three minutes?" Jake shot a look over his shoulder. No sign of the zombie yet. "Hurry. Hurry." He stared at the slow-creeping blue progress bar, his heart pounding so hard it felt like it might crack a rib. Every second stretched into an eternity.

“Can’t touch you, can’t be with you physically, but I’m aware, I’m present in death itself. When you die eventually, I’ll be here to guide you through.” It’s beautiful and tragic and exactly the kind of sacrifice Alistair would make. Original Death is satisfied. “The exploit is closed,” it announces. “Negotiable death is functional again. Death refugees will return to proper endings now that absolute death is proven absolute. Crisis resolved.” I’m holding Alistair’s death-consciousness in eternal space and trying not to think about how he died to fix my design failures. Then something happens that makes everyone freeze. The gap tears open and someone enters who shouldn’t exist anymore.
