It was the only piece of her left to bring home. Past midnight, the dungeon door opened. It was him. Damien stood in the doorway with a lantern. The light fell on the pail. He looked at it for a full minute. Then he came over, crouched in front of me, and said, "Open your mouth." I shook my head. He took my jaw in his hand — lighter than the night he'd slapped me. I had to open it. The strand of pale-silver hair was still under my tongue. He saw it. His pupils contracted.

It pissed him off. “Listen up, Larson. My name is Carl Mann. Not Eric f**king Cartman. Call me by that name again, and I’ll f**king tear you apart!” Carl snarled angrily. There was nothing he hated more than being referred to by that terribly insulting nickname. Zayn smiled. “Whatever you say, Cartman.”

Carter cooed friendly, waving at my brothers who just looked back at him blankly. "Who is this, Ryry?" "Is he your lover?" "Why ish he in a wheewchair?" "Who is the girl in the relationship?" "Did you buy me Skittles?" Some strange emotion swirled in Carter's dark eyes and soon a wholehearted laughter escaped his sexy mouth. "Hey, boys! Uhm... This is my friend, Carter. No, he isn't my lover. And no, I didn't buy Skittles, Sky. I told you I’m not going to the shop.”

“Yeah, that’s Logan Carter.” There was a round of Oh's and ahs from the group at the window. I heard my phone buzz on the table with a notification. I closed my laptop down and grabbed my things. A lot of the office stayed at the window watching as I exited. I must admit they were correct; he looked exceptional. He was wearing dark jeans, a crisp white T-shirt and a black leather jacket. He was leaning against the bonnet of a car I didn’t recognise.

Jeremy was waving his hand in frustration and tried to push Earl at the other side of the fence without giving up. "Is he... is he trying to find a reason to get in here..?" Jacques asked, pointing her hands at the phone. "Oh, yeah..." Scarlett rolled on the carpet holding her stomach and laughed. "Man! It's been a while since I've laughed this hard!" "Should we..." Jacques felt a little bad for Jeremy because he was laughed at like this. He probably thought it was a blind spot and tried this not knowing Bobby changed the angle of the cameras. "No need... he'll go away... But let me record this..." Bobby was excited. "I hope the little guy farts in his face... That would be amazing!"

“That usually happens once a week.” “I never realized it was that bad.” I thought out loud. “What a bunch of racist assholes.” I scoffed. Carter burst out laughing again, looking at me with a twinkle in his light blue eyes. “What?” I blinked. “Does it not apply to species? Should I have said a bunch of speciesist assholes?” Carter let out another loud chortle. That was something I never knew about Carter in the books. He laughed like a middle-aged white dad from suburbia.

“But I couldn’t do that.” “Might be good for him.” “I couldn’t hurt him. Not on purpose.” She sensed Jack’s hesitation and her gaze zoomed to him. “What?” “Can I give you some advice, Macie?” “Sure.” “Carter is a great guy. But his artistic nature sometimes causes him to do stupid things that make sense to him at the time.” Macie thought of Carter’s over-the-top reaction to her sitting on the back of a mechanical bull. Yeah. That made sense.

Anderson finishing tuning and rock’s out. “Killer,” I throw up my hands in a rock out pose and I headbang to his beat making everyone laugh. Everly joins my headbang and Anderson plays it up. His hair makes so much sense as he bangs with us, playing a metal riff. “Enough rockstar, it’s my damn turn,” Carter balls up some paper and throws it at Anderson’s head. Carter got a new skateboard and air brush paints. He look up at his Dad and I, then nodded his head in appricatation. He is not one to show off.

The amount of scoldings he receives from the other family in our team can’t be overemphasized. Our kids didn’t really query him but they look sad for being the first to fall off the game. “I’m really sorry kids, Tell me what I can do to make it up to you guys.” Carlton is feigning a cry-face as we are walking away from the Game scene. I don’t know what I’m expecting from the kids but I certainly didn’t expect the abrupt switch of mood. One second they are frowning so hard and next when they look at Carlton, they all burst out laughing in sync. Andre takes the lead.

I said, raising my head and finding James with a few of his friends as they smiled at us. Being in the hockey team had great perks. I didn’t miss the way everyone straightened their form, plastering bright smiles on their lips. “Hey!” Their voices had gone an octave higher, each batting their lashes at the boys who were willing to look. James leaned over, his hand touching the side of my face. “You have become Casper the friendly ghost,” he teased. I smiled. He wasn’t wrong, after the coffee fate we had, I had been avoiding him, leaving his messages on read.
