A librarian with round glasses was smiling at me from behind the cart. “Oh um, just… research,” I said, closing the book halfway. “Research on what?” she asked, tilting her head. I hesitated, then blurted, “Werewolves. Legends. Anything… like that.” Her brows lifted slightly. “That’s a rare request.” She pushed the cart closer. “We have an occult and folklore section. Row D, far corner. But remember, most of it’s myth.” “Thanks,” I murmured, gathering my things.

I walked through the palace on instinct, each step heavier than the last until I reached the library. The scent of old parchment and candle wax clung to the air. Shelves stretched up to the ceiling, crammed with books most people had long forgotten. I scanned the rows, grabbing anything with even a mention of curses, or ancient rituals. My arms filled with books, but none of it felt like enough. “Alpha Rowan?” I turned to see the librarian, her face lined with age, but her eyes sharp and curious. “Do you need assistance?” “I need books on moonstones,” I said, voice rough. “Anything you have.”

Just how many people are curious enough about vampires that they read about it, watch shows about it, and could determine that I belong to that kind just by one look at me? I never liked libraries. The silence and dust always made me feel trapped, but today I have no choice. I need answers. I watched the librarian pull a thick, leather-bound book from the top shelf and hand it to me. "Here, Ma’am. This might help," she said with a small smile. I nodded. "Thank you." I retreated to a darkened corner of the library where I can work undisturbed. I flipped through the pages, scanning the faded text until one passage caught my eye.
