“That's dangerous to say.” I smile. “I’m not afraid of this kind of danger.”

My sudden laughter rang through the Chamber, silencing them. Once I was done laughing, I looked at each of their faces and said, “You all don’t have to worry about your loved ones. They’re being well taken care of. But, as you know, that can change very swiftly at anytime. And very painfully, I might add. So, if you ever want to se your loves again, if I say hop you jump towards the skies. Am I understood?” They all nodded swiftly and hastily, too scared to do anything. For a moment, I felt disgust at how pathetic they were. But then I remembered the thrill of being feared and I relaxed.

He asked. I nod my head and continued staring at his face. "It's hard to make a move again. Because one wrong move, I'm in danger. That's what I'm feeling every time and any time." I smiled bitterly. His forehead creased."How about me? I'm willing to take the risk, Arnaez." My eyes widened at its best. "Are you kidding me? You don't mean that! You're probably joking, Yukenzo." I laughed sarcastically.

Aaron whispers, with a panic expression. I bit my bottom lip to hide my chuckle and tried to look at him with a serious face but failed miserably when he was about to cry in panic. I burst into laughter, looking at his scared face and panicking. My stomach hurts as I laugh hard, almost falling down but his arms saved me but it didn't stop my laughing. “God! You look so scared!? It's like you have seen a ghost.” I say, calming my laugh and cupping his face in both of my palms.

The sheer gravity of his words hung heavily in the air, a chilling reminder of the perilous situation that engulfed me. I felt genuine fear coursing through me, as the man's tone conveyed a dangerous seriousness that left no room for joke. It was clear that cracking jokes was not his style; instead, his words dripped with a hint of sarcasm. Trembling, I mustered the courage to ask, "Who are you?" My voice quivered, revealing the depth of my fear to anyone who heard me. The silence that followed seemed to stretch on forever, intensifying my anxiety.

He smiled, his expression cruel and calculating. “You’re so naïve,” he said, a cruel laugh escaping his lips. “Can’t you see what’s going on here? I’m not going to let you leave this room alive. It would ruin everything.” My heart pounded in my chest, and I felt my knees start to shake. I knew he meant what he said. I was in real danger.

"Are you going to laugh if I say yes?" Staring into his apprehensive little face, I feel something in my chest twist. Firmly I say, "No. And from my experience, anyone who makes a point to laugh at peoples' fears has one of their own they don't want anyone knowing about. And I'll bet you it's always the silliest things." "Really?" he says, plopping down beside me. "Yes. Like flowers." He laughs at that. "No one is afraid of flowers!" I ruffle his hair. "You'd be surprised, buddy."

For that one moment, there was no army waiting outside, no broken barrier, no wraith-touched land, no Lucian reaching greedy hands towards places that still breathed. There was only my mother laughing, my father looking unbearably pleased with himself, and me standing between them with warmth spilling through my chest. It was ridiculous. It was needed. Maybe fear alone could carry someone into battle, but it could not make them human afterwards. Maybe that was why laughter mattered. Not because it erased danger. Nothing could erase what waited for us.

“So could you.” Ethan lets out a short, humorless laugh. “I’m used to this.” His eyes lock onto mine, unrelenting. “You’re not.” I don’t know whether to be insulted or terrified. Maybe both. “You think I don’t know how dangerous this is?” My voice is steadier than I feel. “I was there, Ethan. I saw everything.” “That’s the problem.”

He was doing a truly terrible job of making sure I did not get harmed, though I conceded that he was not needed at the moment. Once, while strolling, I tripped on a stone and fell. After sniffing and nudging me to make sure I wasn’t hurt, a strange, wheezing sound began to escape from Rage’s mouth and though I was startled at first, it took a while to finally realize that Rage was in fact…laughing. The shock of the discovery that the terrifying beast could actually laugh distracted me from the fact that I was the reason behind his laughter since he was laughing at me.
