TWENTY July 22, 2018 Michael parked the car by the side of the road and walked the rest of the way. It hadn’t even gone six in the morning and the fog was thick and bright. He traced footsteps through the memory of a dream. Fingers curled around tufts of grass as he slid down the slope leading off the main road and onto Crown land. After they locked the car, Michael walked to the front followed by the minister, then Davis and Lee were last. The security was down founded when he saw the four men walk past him, it was only after he heard the ‘ding’ of the elevator when the door closed did he realize he didn’t stop the four men.

Michael wrapped his large arm tightly around my waist, pulling me flush against his solid side while we pushed through the aggressive crowd and the blinding camera flashes
