Before Christmas, the zombie apocalypse came. My husband threw me, his wife who had just given birth, to a horde of zombies because of his lover. I was eaten alive. My eyes snapped open and shot to the clock on the wall. December 24th. 11:47 PM. I was back. Christmas Eve. The final blizzard was closing in. The horde would be here in thirteen minutes. No time. I shoved through the crowd, sprinted to the control room, and slammed the emergency broadcast button.

I remained silent at the front, with my gun raised and ready the whole time. The emergency lights in the research lab flickered on and off, and the air stank of blood and decay. Distant growls of the zombies rumbled through the halls. We were about to reach the exit when a familiar wail cut through the darkness. "Help… Please, help me!" I took a closer look and saw Esmeralda pinned against a wall by three zombies, their teeth sinking into her. Her right arm had been ripped off, blood gushing like a fountain.

She was still in college back then. Her roommate in the bunk below had suddenly snapped, lunging forward and biting straight into the neck of another girl who had come to check on her. June still remembered it like it had just happened. Her roommate had lifted her blood-soaked face, jaws stretched wide, chunks of half-chewed flesh still clinging between her teeth. Strips of meat dangled as she stared straight at June, a wet, horrifying sound coming from her throat. Over the past four years, the world had been overrun with zombies. Everywhere you looked, people were panicking, barely holding it together.

I stood, gasping as I watched him struggle to climb up the mountain with the passed out Nixton and a hundred monsters behind him.
