I wasted no time in shoving the door open as it creaked under my hands, and as I drew my eyes up to the vastly large darkened edges of the room I suddenly froze as I stood with my mouth agape, and staring at the image before me. And not only that, I could understand the words in it too. "You're a genius Linda." I said. I collected the book from Linda and read it. "Use the mermaid tears to bring your friends back to life." I read. "Where is it?" Linda asked and I got it out, handed her the book and rushed to Pablo and Freddy. To my surprise I could actually touch their souls. I woke up to a beautiful melody and sat up in my bed. That's not my bed! Where am I? I looked around and checked that I was with TJ and I noticed that music again. I actually heard TJ sing for the first time, very softly, but I heard a few words. I didn't know the song but it was beautiful, calm and radiated its warmth. There wasn't much text yet, but the melody was heavenly and really touched me. It finally surpassed the deep pain in me that Jayden had left behind. She pressed a hand to her mouth in an attempt to muffle her sobs, her emotions threatening to consume her. In the quiet solitude of the bathroom, her tears fell like rain. I want to control myself to not waste any more tears but I don't have any control over them.

My knees hit the floor first and my arms rose up to my sides. “Moon goddess. Ancestors. Mother. Universe. Please, I ask, accept my soul. It is stained. It is dark but I plead. Accept my soul.” The tears poured and they were of such deep pain. They were of intense grief. I let them run but none came after.

When the guards leave the room, I allow my head to drop and my tears to pour freely down my face. My tears are the things that keep my soul alive in the furnace of this pain. They cannot extinguish what has been done, but they can carry me forward until a time comes when this searing pain is distant enough to forget. Perhaps it may be an oddity to thank my tears and be proud to cry if that is what saves me from becoming a monster.
