“Ah, Cliffhanger…this is so peaceful.” Suddenly he remembered why he was there. He bowed his head and felt guilty for feeling good. “I don’t have a right to feel happy,” he thought as tears filled his eyes. He wept for several minutes. He did not realize how much he was still hurting inside. He heard a sound from the distance and saw several dark shapes on the horizon closer to the hills. They were animals, but ones he had never seen before. Many more were coming over the hills into the fields eating the grass or rolling around kicking up clouds of dust. They had large heads with horns and smaller backsides with short tails that moved quickly back and forth as they swatted at flies.

Daniel smiled, squinting his eyes at me. I laughed as I stroked my hair to the back. "Well, call it instincts and the help of the heavens," I said as I closed my eyes in pride. Daniel laughed and acted like he was saluting me. "So, this is Mount Hills. Where are we heading to here?" He asked as he sniffed, then put his hands into his pockets. The place looked just like the way I saw it in the trance. All I needed was to search for the place I saw the elderly woman, speaking to me.

She’s wearing combat gear and slides glasses on over her brilliant green eyes. ‘Ready boss?’ She looks up at Kylar and he nods at her before we fall in behind him, hiking over the meadow. I can’t count the times I’ve run over this meadow. Or did as a kid. It’s a large sloping hill filled with wild flowers and buzzing insects. It smells exactly like I remember and I look up, picking out the familiar shape of blue mountains that circle our village. I can hear the Silver Stream at the bottom of the hill and I think my legs might give way.

Walking up a hill, I see a road dead in front of me, a car's lights pass by and the speed of it whips my hair back and out of my face. Climbing, I stumbled forward. Catching myself with my good arm, I half army crawl up. One more step, I can hear the traffic and see the headlights fading in and out. A stick snaps behind me. Looking back, I saw him, I saw his piercing green eyes and menacing smile. My stomach dropped to my ass. Falling to my rear, I put my hand up and sent a tornado of leaves and sticks right at him. He claps his hands and my small tornado disappears. He inches forward, and my heart started skipping beats like a wild drum.

"Hello, this is Mercy Hospital calling. Are you a family member of Sylvia Wells? She insists on going through an abortion, so we need you to sign the papers." The car immediately screeched to a halt. I lurched forward thanks to the momentum, leading to me banging my head against the dashboard. All I could feel was dizziness.

One could even hear a pin drop or the sound of her heart pounding. All eyes narrowed down to one particular person. Lilly Freaking Hills.

Her scream echoed through the room, shrill and panicked. "Aaah!" But as soon as she spotted someone behind me, her expression morphed in an instant. Her eyes grew red-rimmed, tears welling up like a tragic heroine. "Emily, I know you despise me, but my child… my child is a life too!" I felt a strong hand seize my wrist, and I turned to find Tristan staring at me, his gaze glacial. "That's enough," he said coldly. "Emily, I asked you to come here for a civil conversation. How could you attack Faye like this?"

As they walked, the scenery around them began to change. The beach narrowed, and the hills surrounding them grew taller and more rugged. Nicole's eyes widened as she took in the breathtaking view. The hills, the beach, and the sea all came together to create a stunning panorama. Nicole's jaw dropped as she gazed out at the sight before her. She had never seen anything so beautiful in her life. The hills rose up on either side of them, their peaks shrouded in a misty veil. The beach was a narrow strip of golden sand, and the sea sparkled like a thousand diamonds in the fading light.

They were moist and glimmering, still veiled in the hazy dampness of waking, soft and irresistibly endearing. Elijah did not immediately regain clarity. He simply stared blankly, his gaze unfocused, at the deep canopy of the Mystic Mountains above. Sunlight filtered through layers of leaves and fell upon his cheeks, casting scattered specks of light that warmed him enough to make him squint instinctively. His long lashes lowered, sweeping a small shadow beneath his eyes.

I loved reading books, when I schooled with the normals, I ate up all their stories. I grabbed a book from the shelf, turning it over to read it. “Ancient Spell Casting,” I read out loudly. Donae waved her hand, and the book left mine suddenly, returning to its spot on the shelves. “Sorry, I was curious,” I said, walking over to her bench. She rarely spoke, I realized. “What's a hilly billy?” I asked her. “ A hilly billy is a plant that cures blindness. It's gotten from Hell.”, she spoke calmly.
