It was the Great Library of the Sunder,the repository of everything the McKinnley line had ever taken or lost. A small woman, hunched and draped in tattered lace, beckoned to her from between two towering shelves. Anna followed, her bare feet silent on the cold floor. As she moved through the impossible hall, she saw other figures,spectral residents of the Library. Some bowed deeply as the "Concentration" passed; others hissed and vanished into mist, terrified of the raw power radiating from her nude, glowing form.

That day, after breakfast, I took the satchel containing the broken urn, and made Cassian take me to the library inside the pack house. It was a huge, quiet room with rows and rows of books. At the very back, there were some old scrolls, and more books that looked like they might be restricted. The librarian was a nice old lady who had kept glancing at me until I found a desk out of sight. I got the urn out of the satchel, found two pieces that looked like they matched, and tried to join the edges together. I'd sort of been expecting that something magical would happen. Maybe the pieces would begin to glue themselves back together or something. No such thing happened.

Which honestly wasn’t saying much considering I apparently knew nothing about my bloodline.

The spell hiding my scent was firmly in place as I murmured an invisibility spell of my own. “Obscurum.” Spells that required words or a phrase alone tended to draw energy quickly. With a sharp huff through her nostrils the librarian muttered something about ghosts and slinked off to clean up the mess. I followed Kimberly down the aisles to the very back of the library but was too late to follow her into a blackened doorway hidden behind a row of shelves.

"I don't think that so-called system exists either. It sounds more like an excuse. If it were real, it would be way too weak. How could it work without even filtering who the person is? It just doesn't make sense." Then, he added, "Don't overthink it. This world runs on smoke and mirrors. Maybe she just planted some kind of surveillance device in your apartment." I thought what he said made sense. Maybe there was no complicated high-tech involved; perhaps it was just a simple hidden camera. I immediately dragged Isaac back to my place. Together, we bought a scanner designed to detect hidden cameras, and we searched every corner of my home from top to bottom. We even checked inside the toilet

Sitting behind it was an elderly man with thin glasses perched precariously on the bridge of his nose. "Good day, sir," Zayla said, leaning against the counter with a warm smile.
