The night carried our breaths, shallow and steady, the moon reflecting off the edge of my knife.
"So," I started quietly, careful, "that song... it's about him, right?"
"Yeah," he admitted. "For my... ex," he said quietly, voice breaking a little. "We fought... the day the bombs fell. I don't know if he's out there. Alive... or gone."
"Everything fell apart before I even knew what happened. And now..." He stared at the moonlight.
We kept passing the flask back and forth. Our hands overlapped briefly, fingers brushing as we held it in unison. I let a faint smile curve my lips.
