The Desert Road Night was descending slowly and oppressively over the desert, tracing dark lines across the mountains as if spectral shapes lurked there. Behind the wheel sat Susan, her eyes fixed on the asphalt road that stretched ahead like a black snake snaking between the dunes. Beside her, Detective Mohammed stared silently at the horizon, the hum of the engine and the whistle of the wind the only sounds breaking the heavy silence.

As I hiked through the brush, the familiarity of our campsite faded behind me, panic set in. Every scream I let out towards Rafe seemed to be swallowed up by the vastness of the desert. "Rafe!" A deafening roar suddenly tore through the silence outside. The sound of rotor blades grew from a distant hum to a thundering pulse, and the entire room trembled. The tune got louder. Was this a dream? If it was, how would I wake up?

The sky overhead was a swirling tapestry of purples and blues, and in the distance, we could see towering mountains. "Where... where are we?" Alex's voice was shaky, betraying his confusion. "It's like no place I've ever seen," I responded, squinting against the harsh sunlight. "It's as if multiple terrains have converged in one location."
