Second, I do not buy females for pack resources or sex. Third, I do not like weak little pups. And fourth, I am not old.” I am dirty sometimes, but not old. “I am only thirty-one winters old. Is that enough answers for you, kitty cat?”

Warriors rushed to slam the gates shut and bar them. The silence that followed was suffocating. Then one of the warriors spoke up, his voice tight with barely controlled anger. "You're really going to let us all die for her?" Caelan turned slowly to face the speaker. A younger wolf, maybe in his mid twenties, with fear and fury warring in his expression.

You haven’t even had your wolf’s dawn yet, so don’t kid yourself into thinking I would ever see you as someone worth fighting.”

He announces proudly. My mouth hangs open at his disclosure, I wouldn’t have guessed him to be older than his late seventies. He still moved like a Lyoki in his mid-fifties. “Wow,” was all I could manage. “Were-cats live long lives, even longer than some werebears. You don’t know much about werecats?” He frowns with his question, and I shake my head. “I do but only what I was taught in school. Schools that were in packs… so the curriculum wasn’t really tailored to my kind.” I tell him with a note of sadness in my voice.
