Maxine's pov.

"So he's a vampire?" She adjusted herself on the couch opposite me. I sat in the living room with the three of them. Rank three, Rank seven, and Rank two. I never expected to see Selena, especially after what happened between us. It was safe to say I was the reason she joined them.

When becoming an elder, it was important to cut off all ties with friends and family to protect the authenticity of the law. They had to go through extreme training just to get the last rank and then build their way up. But love, just as dangerous as it is beautiful, started causing problems, especially with me. Selena fell in love with one of them and she started resisting my orders. And when I found out, I took care of it in the only way I knew how.

Usually, when an elder dies off or gets killed as weaklings that they are, the training starts and only one can be chosen. She should've bowed down to me seeing that if I hadn't killed her stupid boyfriend, she would have never become an elder.
