You guys stay here and guard the table?” As soon as Lily wandered off toward the small crowd gathered around the fire dancers, a sophisticated woman approached their table. She was tall, elegant, and strikingly beautiful mid-thirties, with sleek dark hair in a perfect chignon, wearing a backless emerald-green dress that hugged her figure. Her confidence radiated like expensive perfume. “Alexander Voss,” she purred, stopping beside their table with a dazzling smile. “I thought that was you. What a pleasant surprise.” Alexander stood politely, recognition flickering in his eyes. “Sophia Laurent. It’s been a while.”

“Some things can’t wait, Mother.” The air crackles. They’re smiling, but it’s a duel. Every word a blade. Anastasia steps closer, diamonds flashing. “You always did have… peculiar taste,” she says, eyes raking over my dress, my bare back, my trembling fingers clutching Nicholas’s sleeve. “Tell me, darling,” she addresses me directly, voice honey over broken glass, “what exactly is it you do? Tears stung Anna’s eyes, and she glared at Lark, wondering why he kept quiet while his little sister hurt her like that. Tori caught that and smiled again. “You think he’ll save you?
