The night was cold, and I feared they would catch a cold, but they began to cry out loud on the road. People began to stare, so I had gotten them the ice cream. When they got home, I prepared for them a nice warm shower, and dressed them, making them ready for bed. “I'm craving a bedtime story, Mommy.” Nadia said, as I tucked them in. “I'll tell you one tomorrow. I'm exhausted, okay? What do you think about two bedtime stories tomorrow?” I asked, as a bribe. “Oh yeah! I want Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty.”

I said assuringly. “No. I don't wanna stay alone." She begged, dragging my wrist. Realizing that there was no other way I could leave the room, I came up with an idea. ‘I’m going to tell her a story until she falls asleep!’ "Okay, Marissa, you know what? I have enough stories to tell you, tonight! Do you wanna hear it?” “Yes!" She answered enthusiastically. "Then, climb into bed ASAP!” I said eagerly as both of us crawled into bed, throwing the covers over us.

A small nightlight shaped like a rocket ship glowed in the corner. "Mummy, can you read me a story?" Bernard asked, his big eyes looking up at her hopefully. She smiled and brushed his hair back. "Of course, sweetheart. Which one?" "The one about the brave knight!" Mrs. Harrington reached for the book on the nightstand and began reading. Her voice was soft and soothing, painting pictures of castles and dragons in the boy's imagination. Within minutes, Bernard's eyelids grew heavy, and soon he was fast asleep. She kissed his forehead gently, turned off the main light, and stepped out of the room, closing the door quietly behind her.
