Books For Six-year-olds Novels & Stories

I whisper back, and Lily nods like she understands exactly what I mean. During reading time, I discovered that Oakwood Academy has more books than I've ever seen in one place. There are books about dolphins and princesses and families from all over the world. When Mrs. Peterson asks us to pick our favorites, I choose three: one about a little girl who saves her family from a scary dragon, one about dolphins who protect their pod from sharks, and one about a grandmother who teaches her granddaughter about magic. "Those are excellent choices, Emma," Mrs. Peterson says. "Do you like to read about families and protecting people?"

She says, and I nod my head before placing two sets into the trolley. "What's next?" I murmur and Sienna glances at me. "What about books?" She suggests and I brighten immediately. "Definitely." I say, nodding my head and we make our way to the right aisle. The children's section is beautiful. Colorful covers fill the shelves. Animals. Numbers. Letters. Fairy tales. Learning books. Aiden picks one up. "This one has dinosaurs." He says excitedly and I laugh. "I'm shocked that they actually have dinosaur books"

“I will make sure everything stays in order.” “And one more thing,” Calvin continued. “Prepare toys for the children.” Ronal frowned slightly. “Toys, Sir?” “Yes. What do six-year-old children usually like?” Ronal thought for a moment. “Dolls, toy cars, or educational games.” Calvin nodded. “Prepare the best ones. Don’t be careless.” “Understood, Sir. I will take care of it now.” Ronal turned to leave, but his steps stopped when Calvin spoke again. “Ronal.”

Corrian says as we pass a reading nook with oversized bean bag chairs and a shelf full of books no toddler would read. I catch one title, ‘Teeth Are Not for Biting (But Sometimes They Are)’. I raise an eyebrow. “Special how?” He doesn’t answer. We pass a hallway lined with artwork. Crayon drawings, finger paints, but some of them are odd. Red scribbles in circular patterns, shapes that look more like symbols than animals. One has a giant black figure drawn with scratchy lines and tiny words underneath it. I lean closer. ‘The Bad Ones Are Coming.’

One of the caretakers stood before me with a couple of illustrated storybooks in her hands. I smiled. "Sure." Then it took place on the big carpet in the playroom. No sooner did the kids see the books, they rushed to me. "Mom Sienna!" "I want to take a seat in front!" "I do, too!" I chuckled. "Slow down, please don't push each other." Several kids took places in a circle right away. I opened the chosen illustrated book. "All right, let's read today about a little rabbit looking for his home." The kids went silent right away. Their eyes were focused on the pages while I was starting to read, using sometimes changing intonations to make the story more interesting.

I remember that night. It is raining and six year old me lay on the bed, looking up at the ceiling and probably counting the stars that are drawn over the wood. Mom has just tucked me in after reading a bed time story of Robinson Crusoe to me. I like Robinson Crusoe and I sometimes imagine myself being him and getting lost in an island or so. It is past my bedtime already but I can't seem to bring myself to sleep. I don't know why. I switch of my bedside lamp and close my eyes thinking of Robinson Crusoe and Tom Sawyer another bedtime story that mom loves to read to me.

I asked him another option. "Four" He answered simply. I continued asking him questions and I guess he got tired of me because he sighed. I was suppose to get of him not the other way around. "Do you have any books that I could read?" Bentley asked sitting on my bed. For a four year old, he was exceptionally tall. "Yea, but I gave away all of my old McDonald book" I joked with him. "Do I look stupid to you, give me The Wheels On The Bus" He said, my mouth gaped open as I pointed over to my book shelf.

Tasha, who was about my age and lived next door, threw her door open and bellowed. “Go to hell! Do you think being sixty years old means you’re one foot in the grave already? We can easily live another twenty years, but not with someone like you though! Living just a year with you is hell! “Quit whining and scram! I’m done listening to you complaining!” My son was no match for Tasha. His objections were caught in his throat and he ended up having to scurry away with his head hung low.

Emma’s cheerful voice echoed down the hallway. The seven-year-old girl bounded into the room wearing her blue school uniform and bright pink shoes. In her arms, she held her blue leather Family Adventure Binder, open to a fresh page. Arthur and Vivian parted with a soft laugh, turning together toward the happy child. "Page six is officially open!" Emma announced proudly, holding up the book. She had drawn a colorful picture of three people sitting around a big dinner table filled with fruit and cake. "Page six is called Wednesday Family Dinner and Pancake Breakfast!"
