“Checkmate.” The light engulfed the room bright, soundless, and infinite. It tore through the machines, through the codes, through the decades of horror that Victoria had created. For a heartbeat, I felt everything:Liam’s voice calling my name, my father’s love, the pain, the freedom, and then nothing at all. Darkness swallowed me. But somewhere in that silence, I felt a pulse again. Not my own this time. A new one. Slow, faint, alive. And I knew this wasn’t death. It was a rebirth.

I would have given my life for you. As darkness crept in at the edges of my vision, a desperate prayer formed in my mind. Please... not like this. Not after ten years of lies. If there's a God... if there's mercy at all... let me fix this, let me protect them, let me become the monster they think I am. My heart gave one last jagged thud. My eyes closed on the image of Silas and Loanne standing over me, their shadows merging into one. Then, everything faded into cold, heavy darkness.

The chamber was a cathedral of light. In the center sat a chair made of living roots and glowing fiber-optics. It looked like a throne, but I knew it was a prison. "Once you sit down," Hope said, standing at the edge of the platform, "the 'Re-Birth' begins. The shroud will start to break. In a hundred years, the sun will touch the ground again. In a thousand, the oceans will be blue."

Threw it hitting the third robot and knocking it over. "There are hundreds more behind them!" Aris gasped, her face covered in sweat. "Benson look at the screen! The signal from the coast... It is changing!" Benson looked at the monitor. The icon for PROJECT REBIRTH was flashing red. "Maya what is that?" Benson asked, out of breath. "What is Rebirth?" "It is a plan " the voice said. "It is a way to move the computer brain.... It needs a human body that is not connected to the Network. It needs a brain that's still 'wild' and natural."

"Honey, if that lucky star dies, so be it. But our son… What a waste." Archie pulled her into his arms, and a sharp gleam flashed in his eyes. "She's not dead yet. Don't worry. I've got a plan. Ethan will not only wake up. He'll go viral and bring us even more traffic. As for this lucky star, let her die with purpose." After that, he submitted an application for the rebirth trial. The video ended. Watching the scenes flash by one after another, I fell into thought. After a moment, I finally let go.

“Do you see, Luka? Even the fire couldn’t take me. I was chosen in the flames.” He pressed the paste against her shoulder. She hissed, but her hand shot out and seized his wrist with surprising strength. Her nails dug into his skin. “Don’t look at me as if I’m broken,” she whispered. “I am not broken. I am… reborn.” Luka’s eyes flicked to hers, unreadable. Then, after a long moment, he nodded once. “Then let us make use of that rebirth.” He tied the bandage tight, his motions brisk, practiced. “The city thinks you’re ash. Whispers of your survival spread already. That fear is worth more than a thousand blades.”
