She stood frozen, her lips trembling, her body shaking like a leaf in a storm. And then she whispered, broken and raw, “Please… don’t take me.”

He joined another sloppy toast with some teammates, the cup refilled without him really noticing. His head felt floaty, thoughts blurring at the edges, he should probably stop drinking but his eyes kept drifting back to Marcus and Lila across the bonfire. So he kept drinking so that their figures would become too blurry to make out whose body belonged to whom. The chaos continued around him—someone starting a ridiculous dance battle that ended in playful shoves and more spilled drinks than actual dancing, the bonfire crackling as another log got thrown on, sparks exploding upward like celebration fireworks.

Chapter 34: Crossroads of Chaos The ground trembled violently as the colossal entity, the monstrous embodiment of the corrupted Wellspring, surged through the newly formed fissure. Its pulsating crimson eyes raked across the barren wasteland, settling on Evie and Liam. A guttural roar erupted from its maw, a sound that echoed with a chilling familiarity.

My shadow stirred. It rose, blacker than the abyss itself, writhing like a living thing. And when the beast roared in the distance, my shadow smiled. For the first time, so did kael. --- ☠️ End of Chapter 1.

They knew better. I stayed hunched there for minutes—or hours—fighting every twitch of my muscles, every urge to run wild and tear through anything in my path. Eventually, the trembling slowed. The beast didn’t retreat, but it backed off. Like it was watching. Waiting. Amused. I dropped to one knee, form half-shifted, claws still extended, fangs bared. I could think again. Breathe. Barely. But I knew something was broken now. A line had been crossed. And I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get back.

Eloise It was dark. So dark that I couldn't see my hands. I tried to walk out of the darkness but found out I couldn't. It was like my hands and legs were chained to something, but I couldn't see what. I shut my eyes tight, praying this was just a nightmare, but when I opened my eyes, the darkness was still here. Panic surged in me, I frantically pulled at the restraints. But the harder I pulled, the tighter it seemed to become.

Getting less than a hundred feet before my legs give, letting me roll under a parked car as the sounds of boots and radios follow me. Let go, or simply lose hold of the failing handle, that got me through yet another disaster in one piece.
