Darkness Comprehended It Not Novels & Stories

The Darkness pushed as I clenched my fist, closed my eyes, and began to hum, using the humming to block out the voice of the Darkness and focus my intention on blocking out the Darkness's ploy. The Darkness's voice, a persistent whisper, echoed in the depths of my mind. It promised it threatened, it persuaded, but I remained steadfast. I knew its true intentions, its insatiable hunger for power and souls. My twins were innocent, mere infants, and I would protect them at all costs.

It didn’t do anything at all, it didn’t join or participate, it just stayed there and watched and observed. I loooked more closely at it, and I recognized it as the same figure same idiotic figure from the grove, the very embodiment of the darkness that we all had the belief that we had eliminated. What marveled me was the fact that it did not interact, it did not bother to intercact or obstruct the scene, it just observed what was going on. It’s presence was a firm reminder that the darkness still lived inside me, and I should remember to curtail and taim it every day.

Darkness didn't fall gradually or fade with warning. It took the room violent, complete seizure of every photon. Not a gentle fade into dimness. Not a flicker of dying emergency systems. A complete, suffocating absence like the facility itself had closed its eyes and stopped caring whether we could see. For half a second maybe less, time becoming difficult to measure, No one moved. Because this kind of dark wasn't normal power failure or standard blackout. It wasn't just lack of light that eyes could eventually adjust to.

Darkness. Not absence of light. Not shadow. Something deeper. Something that felt like the world itself had forgotten how to see. The emergency lights died without warning. No flicker. No warning signal. Just— gone. For a single second— no one moved. Because movement required certainty. And in that moment— there was none. Mara couldn’t see her own hands. Couldn’t see Ethan. Couldn’t see the girl. But she could still feel— the echo of that sentence.

Darkness. Not the absence of light. Not emptiness. Not oblivion. This darkness existed before such concepts had meaning. Emma floated within it. Or perhaps she wasn't floating at all. Perhaps movement itself had not yet been invented here. The voice still echoed around her. The voice that had answered her forgotten syllable. The voice that had spoken only two words. At last. Emma's heart pounded. For a moment, she couldn't see anything. Couldn't feel anything. Couldn't even tell whether she still existed.

Much worse. He hadn’t saved them. He had imprisoned them inside himself. And there was no key. Above him, the sky darkened. Clouds gathering unnaturally fast. The wind rising. The world reacting. Sensing something wrong. Something growing. Something unstable. Something that shouldn’t exist. Far away— Lightning flickered. Black. Not white. Like cracks tearing across the sky. And deep within his chest— The Darkness stirred again. Hungry. Restless. Not finished. Not even close.

I approach it with him, my heart rate skipping a beat when it encompasses him. When I reach it, I’m overwhelmed. The darkness is so thick, my vision is covered in the ebony blanket, everything I could once see in front of me now gone. Including the Alpha. Stumbling over broken boughs and loose sticks, I attempt to navigate my way through the darkness. How did it become so thick so suddenly? Kael clearly knows this place better than me, which means he has assumably powered ahead and this is all for nothing. I stop.

Her black eyes searched my face, looking for something I could not name—anger, perhaps, or grief, or understanding. "Because the war is not over," she said. "The king is dead. The shadow is gone. But the darkness is not defeated. It is only sleeping. It has slept before. It has always woken. And one day, it will wake again. That is the nature of darkness. It does not die. It only waits. It only watches. It only hungers." "I know," I said. "I have always known. From the moment Marcus marked me, from the moment the shadow entered my blood, I have known that this would never truly end."

"But the obscurity will never die." The chamber shook brutally, and a gigantic gap opened up within the ground, uncovering a perpetual void of darkness underneath. Ethan's heart hustled as he realized the entity wasn't really gone, it had basically been driven more profoundly into the abyss, holding up to deliver its final assault.

And the fact that he said he can't control it when it comes. "Yes, darkness." She looked back at me. "Don't be afraid, you have your own darkness too, just not quite the same as his." She flicked another pebble-like thing into the fire, it roared a bit louder. "His was born out of unresolved pain and grief, a more,... malicious, kind of darkness." Okay, this was not making me feel better. I looked at her, my mouth shut.
