Caelan walked me down the stairs.
The café was dark now, chairs stacked on tables, counters wiped clean. The place looked different without customers. Quieter. Almost tired.
We stepped out through the side door into the narrow alley beside the building. The air smelled like wet cement and coffee grounds.
For a few seconds, neither of us said anything.
Then I took a breath. “Sorry about dinner.”
Caelan glanced at me. “Which part?”
