Breakfast ended more slowly than I expected. Aurelia insisted on showing me the drawing she'd made after the reception. It consisted mostly of flowers, three smiling stick figures, and what she assured me was a very accurate wolf. "It has four tails," I pointed out. "It was excited." "I see." Kael glanced at the page. When there were only a few pages left, the tone of my drawings changed. The objects and animals that I drew were not alone this time. I no longer drew a stormy or dark night, but a scenery with sunlight and good weather. The flower was accompanied by a dancing butterfly. The bear cub has found another little bear. Since the sketchbook was old, the paper was slightly yellowed which affected the clarity of the drawing. I could barely see the outline.

"Really good! I made a drawing today of you and me and Mama. Oh, and Grandpa too! Even though I don't know what he looks like yet, but I just imagined." I glanced at Alex with raised eyebrows. "What does your new friend look like, Heidi?" Heidi proudly lifted her drawing. It was a crude, childish sketch of a very tall figure standing between two giant green trees. The figure was colored completely in dark gray and black crayons, but the most unsettling part was the face. Heidi had used a bright yellow crayon to draw two massive, perfectly round circles for the eyes.

"Lilly stop, don't peek, it's not done, yet I want it to be a surprise." I smiled at him, "Ok, I will wait until you are finished, sorry that I was trying to peek." From the drawing, it's lunch break and students are milling about around me but I'm standing there, looking stuck and feeling exhausted from the healing process. My eyes are a muddy brown but my lips are stretched out in a wide smile. My shoulders are slumped but my nostrils are flared like I'm angry and my fists are clenched so tightly, it's like I'm trying not to go wild. Like I'm trying to rein in my demons.
