Emily’s POV The sunlight filtering through the blinds felt like punishment. I groaned, dragging the pillow over my face, trying to escape the stabbing light that sliced into my skull like a thousand tiny ice picks. My tongue felt like sandpaper, my stomach twisted in confused rebellion, and my thoughts moved sluggishly, like they were coated in syrup. A hangover. A real, undeniable, soul-splitting hangover. How quaint. I hadn't had one in so long that I almost forgot what it was like to feel both dead and alive at once.

I stand up with her help and with a whisper, I tell her that I want to take a bath to get rid of all this discomfort that makes my body feel bad. I take a deep breath, remove my clothes with my aunt's help, and enter the shower alone. While the water cascades over my head, I reflect on what happened yesterday. I don't remember shit! I still don't understand why I drank too much. Now I'll be the laughingstock of everyone.
