I just need to get out of the restaurant and go from there. Before I settle in to work on the application, I glance back up at the dresser. There's a fishbowl sitting at its center, containing a purple-scaled betta fish, which shimmers as it drifts at the surface of the water. I got myself a fish on a whim a couple of weeks ago, thinking it might make my apartment feel less empty. I also figured it might remind me of Brandon. This fish looks similar to Swimmy. I haven't had the stomach to name it yet, mostly because I wish I could ask Brandon to do it instead.

They stared at the family and Nick as they entered, making Nick realize that they were much more intelligent than the average fish. ‘Hey new guy.’ A voice he had never heard sounded in his mind. I answered him with my most serious face, and his shoulders started to shake, then he cracked out laughing. "For the fish's sake, Maia, they are both fishes. But, yeah, which is better? The one from the ocean or freshwater?" He replied and asked me after he has composed himself, and I pointed the one from the ocean. A flying fish. "Why?" He asked and tried to get a taste of the two that he has placed on the plate for our dinner. "Because... We have been eating freshwater fishes for like... more than a week already. And, this one tastes something new." I answered truthfully, and he just agreed with me.

He puts his own rod down and grabs a hold of mine, and I realize he’s trying to tell me a fish is interested in what I’m offering. “Take your time and bring it in nice and slowly.” His large hand covers mine, and we slowly wind the line in… and eventually, I see a golden yellow fish flopping around on the surface of the water. “Wow!” I shout to him. “Look at that!” “That’s a beauty,” he tells me. “A sunfish!” It is beautiful, but I feel bad. “Can we let it go?” I ask him. “Will it be hurt too badly to swim away?”

So, I sit by the bank and I am feeling hungry. I need food and since I am in a river, how about enchanting some fish. Water isn't my forte like the earth is but I can still summon fish, can't I? There is only one way to find out. So, I dip my fingers in the water and start calling on them. "From whence deep this water is, I call forth the water creatures. From wherever this water reaches, I I call forth the water creatures..." I continue chanting and it doesn't take long before I start seeing fish and crabs and frogs start sorrounding my hand.

He chuckled slightly as he gestured to the fishes. "This one is a Killifish" I wasn't really paying attention but it was nice to watch him be relaxed for a change. "That's a Labyrinth fish" he continued to do so but I couldn't even complain because for the first time, I was seeing a different side of him from the cold persona he has built up in the past week. "Mommy, let's go see a dolphin, that man keeps talking about the fishes and because of that, I'm not able to enjoy watching them swim around." A young boy who was standing with his mother not far away from us cried loudly.

When I decided to join the swimming team I didn't take into account the amount of laps I had to do during the practice but despite that I felt free, rejuvenated in a way and I had honestly missed that so much. Swimming has always been kind of a stress reliever for me, a coping mechanism that I need, so given that we don't have a swimming pool at home, I had really missed being in the water. Mum had always said that I am like a fish when I am in water.
