She smiled. "Let's start," She opened and placed the chessboard. It was made of marble. The pieces were made if black and white marbled. They are heavy too. "It's so nice like a royal," Aaina warbled happily. "It was gifted, Harsh's Nanaji. He was the king when he was young. We were good friends," He announced jovially. Aaina smiled, hearing him. The word, 'Nanaji' echoed in her ears. She wanted to ask, but skipped it.

The blue pieces were about quarter of the number of white pieces and the red pieces were the fewest, with only 24 present on the board. The pieces represented the fighting power of the village against the threat of the Magical Beasts. The green pieces represented the Soldiers. They were the most of the fighting force. The white pieces represented the Animal Hunters and the blue pieces represented the Thrashers. The fewest pieces, the red ones, represented the number of Predators. The board was custom made, and its surface was etched with a map of the village and its surroundings. It even included the Enchanted Forest. It was something that was purchased from the recently destroyed Iris City.

"Do you fancy a rematch?" Finally, some stimulation. "That sounds wonderful." She smiled at me, closing the door behind her and setting the chessboard up on the bedside table. The pieces were wood, one set lightly stained and the other more darkly stained. Hand whittled. "Did you make these? They're lovely." "Thank you, Evie. Lots of spare time." She selected the lightly stained pieces to start the game. "I must confess, I've been meaning to talk to you alone." Katarina made her first move.

Brian took out a piece of paper and read from it. “For this round, we would be playing the game of... Chess” and there were applause and cheers from the people. The game of chess was one of the games the royals in the werewolf clan enjoyed. In this game, the wisdom of the kings are being tested. The way the game is played amongst the royals are quite different. They do not move the piece themselves but have two 9f their guards do the moving. The game is played with a giant pieces of chess and it has it’s markings on the floor.

The chessboard in front of me. I kept moving the pieces — setting up the whole game from scratch. White queen. Black knight. Pawns scattered. The king forward… leading the charge. I stared at the board, heart thudding slow in my chest. I stepped out, walking into the basement— it smelled like gun oil, sweat, and cigarette smoke — the kind of scent that stuck to your clothes long after you left. The low murmur of voices filled the air, boots scraping against concrete. Magazines clicking into place. Steel brushing against steel.

The way the body reacted when a truth finally stepped out of the dark. She tapped the notification. The screen opened to a single image. Not recent. Not dramatic. A photograph of a chessboard. Midgame. Black pieces. White pieces. A very specific configuration.

His mind wandered to the beginning days of his paralysis and how frustrated he was at everything then. With a smile on his face, he pulled Elise. “Let’s go!” As they stepped into the lounge, the chess set was exactly where she’d left it, perched on a side table. Alejandro set it up with ease, explaining the basics as he placed each piece in the right order. Pawns in a neat row, rooks at the corners, then the king and queen side by side. His fingers lingered on the queen, his gaze flicking to Elise with a playful smirk. “This one’s you. The most powerful piece on the board.”

He chuckles and closes the chest. “Pick the two you like the most, I’ll magic up the pieces, then we can work on the board.” She nods and considers the metals. She decides on the gold and blue, as they’re more interesting and go well together. He nods and brings out his sketches of the pieces she’d designed and then waves his staff over the table, the tallest of the pieces he made was about three and a half inches tall, the pawns were shorter, more like two inches tall. She picks one up when he’s finished,

I question him again trying to break the ice, he seems to smirk a little looking over at me. "Well it started back in school I don't know how old I would've been, I was sat in class leaning back in my chair and for some reason behind me, you know back in the day you had those pens you had to dip in ink?" He asks me looking over with a smile, I nod saying quills he nods continuing "well I leant back in my chair when the chair moved and I fell, on the way down I tried to grab hold of something to stop me falling, but I end up grabbing the sheet of paper the tubs were of ink was on" he laughs which causes a little laugh to come out of my lips as I finish with his cut on his face.

In front of him was a massive chessboard with many metallic pieces. This must be one of the mechanisms. "Wow, really? You could at least say whether winning or losing lets you pass," Alexander muttered helplessly. Seeing that the red general's position was empty, Alexander lightly tapped his foot and leaped onto the general's spot. Clack, clack! The mechanism activated, and the entire chessboard came to life. "Cannon..." Alexander was about to make his first move when the pawns on both sides charged toward him at lightning speed. Boom!
