I reach out and open the door myself. I’ll show him I can be tough. Even if I see a dead body in there, I'll find a way to work with it. “Shh, don’t cry, my love. Mummy’s here. It’s gonna be okay.” The sound of the female voice is the first thing I hear as my eyes take in the room. Soft lights shining overhead cast a glow to bright peach and white walls. The wardroom has a table, chair, and a bed, almost like a hotel room. Except it isn’t a hotel room and there’s a mum, and what I'm guessing is her newborn child in her arms. She raises her eyes to the door the moment it’s fully open.

Chapter 1 In the damp and dilapidated rental room, moans and gasps echoed endlessly from the bedroom. Emma no longer remembered how many times she had been forced to endure those disgusting sounds. She only recalled that ever since she became aware of the world, strange men had been coming and going in the house. Emma stared blankly at the workbook in front of her. To block out the sounds, she had to wear headphones with the volume turned up to the maximum. But the disgust and fear still coursed through her body, making her tremble involuntarily from time to time.

Tatiana was alarmed to see me. Tahlia had not assigned me any tasks, so I switched to polite mode. “Hello, Tatiana,” I said sweetly with a little curtsy. I could see her face slowly twist, and she seemed angry. “Fake! You’re so fake! Urgh!” “Tatiana, what are you talking about?” An elderly lady with a cane appeared from behind her. She squinted at me and pulled out her reading glasses. “And who is this?” “Grandma, this is my friend, Yvonne Zane. I switched dorms, and she’s my new roommate.”

I said and picked Emma in my arms. She smiled but did not protest. I guess this was good for her. I still remembered where my room was when I came to this manor to have a night in. It was on the second floor. I opened the door and I do not know why but the room still looked the same as if I had been here a few days ago and not for years. I entered and closed the door with my foot. I placed Emma on the floor. She looked around the room and smiled, I guess she liked it. Is this your room? She asked me

Aislinn gratefully followed Rissa out of the great room and down a different hall into another room. The room they ended up in looked like a library. There were tons of bookshelves and tables and chairs. There were a number of sitting areas with couches and armchairs arranged together in confidential little nooks. Several people were already in the room. They looked up and watched as the small group of women entered and headed for chairs. Aislinn wondered if there was a single room on this floor that wasn't full of people.

Diouf took the key card from her hand and pressed it against a panel beside the door. There was a soft click and the door opened. "This will be your room, miss." 'Why is my room all the way here on it's own?' she wondered silently. One look at the room and Emma was unimpressed. It was clean and neat, modest even. Just not what she would expect for the wife of Montero. There was a single bed pushed against a wall, and white sheets folded so neatly on the bed it looked untouched. A lamp rested on a small desk. Above it was a window.

“Can we talk?” I hesitate but step aside to unlock the door. We don’t say much as we walk in but there’s tension in the silence and I am certain it is thick with the thing simmering between us that hasn’t cooled since her bedroom. Inside the dorm, it’s dim. I flick on the small desk lamp, casting a soft gold over the room. “Roomie not home?” she asks, stepping in and looking around. “Not yet.” She gestures to my bed. “Can we sit?”
