The group all say their short goodbyes while parting ways for the night, leaving Sammy to begin the short journey across the pastures back towards her family's property. MANUEL'S POV I was still reeling from trying to think of ways to make Samantha accept my proposal when I had received a call that said that Samantha had been attacked. I had bolted out the door as fast as I could and got into my car. I had to get to her and make sure that she was okay. The shouting continued. The flashes never stopped. Even so, none of it intimidated her anymore. Not so long ago, standing before so many people would have made her feel like prey cornered by the world. Now she felt different. She felt like someone who had survived.
