The trip had been a much needed honeymoon.Two weeks in a remote luxury resort, a bubble of heat and cedar against the endless white. They’d arrived that afternoon, the tension a live wire between them from the moment the door clicked shut. A shared shower that was more tease than cleanse, a slow, deliberate unpacking where hands lingered on zippers and skin. They’d made it through an almost kiss and now it all came crashing out like a broken flood gate.

I could see my house is coming to a view but I stopped in my track when I saw a moving truck next to my house. Scrunching my eyebrow in confusion, I wonder who is my new neighbors. I remember the one lived beside my house is a old couple, they have sell the house for 2 years but no one has buy it, until now. I shrug and make my way to my house, walking inside the house, I head straight to the kitchen only to find my mother is baking a chocolate muffin and cookies. My favorites. I slowly and quietly try to take the chocolate muffin but my mom swiftly turn around and slap my hand away.

Life had been busy for the two of them and the next three weeks were theirs to do with as they pleased, however they pleased. A few months ago he and B had made the biggest purchase of their lives – a home to call their own. The house they'd bought wasn't the biggest or nicest, but it was new construction and they loved it. It was on a few acres of property less than two miles from the clubhouse. They loved being out in the country after being cooped up in an apartment in town for so long. The problem was they hadn't had much time together because of the time of year. Halloween had turned to Thanksgiving and now they were a week from Christmas.

Turning onto my street, I immediately spot him. My stomach drops. Because there he is. Standing in his driveway. Just like yesterday. Just like every day. The house next door. The boy next door. The problem next door. For a second, I wonder if he sees me. Then he looks up. And I know he does. Our eyes meet across the distance. Neither of us waves. Neither of us speaks. The silence stretches between us. Strange. Uncomfortable. Different. I break eye contact first. Of course I do.

Feeling the right moment to enquire about the couple, they all quickly sat down. “Geneva. Who is that couple? I mean, who are Ada and Lennard?” Adi asked, trying to take the conversation in the direction of the couple to get information. “Ada and Lennard,” She took a long pause as she remembered them with a gentle smile on her face. “They used to stay in the village. What a lovely couple they were. Always supporting each other and loved to stay in a peaceful environment. They never had a fight with people as far as I know. Nonetheless, fate had written something else for them.” She turned and began walking towards the kitchen, hiding the tears.
