Even Merrick turned from the window. Xander didn’t look down. His back was straight. His crown caught the torchlight and threw it across the floor. I stood behind him with Akim in my arms and my chest hurt in a way I didn’t have words for. “There is something bigger coming,” Xander said. His voice didn’t shake. “I saw it. In the tunnels under us. It moved through the stone like it was born there. It wasn’t a wolf. It wasn’t a man.” He paused. “Burning them won’t stop it.”

I scoff. The sharp scent of cigarette smoke reaches me, and that’s when I really look at the man Xander cheated with. He’s sprawled on the table, utterly unbothered, still naked, legs spread casually as he takes a drag. His dirty blond hair falls into his dark green eyes, eyes that make my skin crawl. There’s a tattoo on his torso, one that resembles a wolf howling at a full moon. Shit. It can’t be… right? ‘He’s just like us, Sammie,’ Tania says through our mind link, making her presence known. ‘but he’s different. He has the blood of the cursed one.’

The white t-shirt he was wearing hugged his upper arms closely, letting his tattoos and guns- so-called muscles- show proudly. God damn, I can only imagine how that broad shoulder of his would feel-- “Skylar?” he suddenly turned his attention on me, the brown orbs gazing inside my blue ones. The way a small frown crept to his face was enough to let me understand that he didn’t know I was naked-stripping him within my mind. Does anybody have holy water? Anyone? “Anything really.” Xander gave me a small nod, returning his gaze to the road, leaving me with my unholy thoughts once again.

I heard voices coming to me, I tried hard to understand what they were saying, struggling with the confusion still in my head. “…been 10 days,” I heard Xander say, his voice tight with worry. “Why hasn't she woken up?” “Her body is adjusting,” another voice replied – Zara, our pack healer. “The transformations she's experienced… They're extraordinary. We need to remain calm.” Transformations? What transformations? I wanted to open my eyes and ask for explanations, but my body still wasn't fully responding. “And what about the tremors?” Aiden's voice was now uncharacteristically serious. “They're getting stronger, more frequent.”

he replied, holding me closer to his chest. I smiled as I tightened my hold around his waist, closing my eyes as I took a deep whiff of his scent- candlewood and lies. Seems he stopped using manipulation. I laughed at my joke. Tiana rolled her eyes and I poked my tongue at her. She's so real and annoying, I don't get why Xender can't see her. Maybe he's finally getting drowned in his sins. Perfect. I hated him too. Loved only his money and huge dick.

Or anything that would make me lose focus and start worrying again. With the big fluffy towel wrapped around me, tucked in at the front and another towel over my hair. I walked out of the bathroom. The sight of Xander sitting on the bed with a novel is not the image I had when I stood out. But there he was, looking completely immersed in it. He never seemed like the reading type to me. A romance book nevertheless. I wanted to ask what the book was about. But then. I pause to think if my curiosity was with the trouble tab all.
