I heard the door to my room open. With my vision blurry, I had to squint my eyes to see who it was. “Claire” Dad called me, which made my head throb. “Quiet” I groaned in pain “Honey, I’m whispering” And it sounded as if he was yelling?. This is by far the worst hangover I’ve ever had. Dad hands me this arawak tea, it’s known for its fast relief of hangover symptoms.

My head throbbed again. Cold water trickled down my face as I hunched over the sink. Little pinpricks of cold radiated across the apples of my cheeks. They were almost as red as my blood-shot eyes. Staring at my reflection, a sudden clarity pierced through the fog of my killer hangover.

I didn’t hear his words; I fell asleep. I woke up the next morning with a head-splitting headache. I massaged my temples, hoping it would go away. I looked to my left and Primo wasn’t on the bed. I looked around the room but he wasn’t here. Just then, the door opened and Primo came in carrying a glass. “Hangover?” I nodded. He went to my side and gave me the glass. “What is this?” It was filled with an orange-colored liquid. I took a whiff and it smelled disgusting. “That’s for your hangover. Don’t mind the taste.” I sighed. I put the glass on my lip and I drank it all at once. I put the glass on the nightstand. “That was disgusting.” He chuckled. He cupped my face and looked into my eyes.

I woke up to a searing pain in the back of my head. I couldn't even open my eyes. Shit! I have never felt this bad even when I was in college. I always limit my drinks when I am at a party except when I'm with Lisa. But even with my best friend, I hadn't felt this hung over. The whiskeys were very potent and I was an idiot for falling head-first into the trap laid out for me. I put both of my hands over my head. I heard someone closing on me. I couldn't even open my eyes and see who that was.

I gulp. “We may have to get really drunk to get through this one,” he sighs dramatically and slaps the papers down on the table. “I think we should give the booze a rest for tonight. I don’t think my poor body can handle a new hangover when it’s still suffering with one.” I grimace. “Never heard of ‘hair of the dog’, tiny?” Jake smiles at me. “Drink to kill a hangover and worry about it later.” “Is that a Jake Carrero hangover cure?” I roll my eyes.

VENUS I woke up wrapped in a blanket that wasn’t mine, sunlight cutting across the living room in lazy golden lines. My head was splitting, my throat dry like I’d swallowed cotton. So this is what a hangover feels like. Cute. I dragged myself upright and blinked against the blur. That’s when I saw it; a glass of water, two pills, and a sticky note perched beside them like a smirking little dare. Drink me. Even in ink, his arrogance bled through. Of course it did. But I drank because if I didn’t, my brain would’ve started leaking out of my ears.
