Her growl echoed through the trees and her eyes glowed brilliant green. As Kathleen thrust the knife down, Emory shifted into full wolf and slipped through her legs. With extraordinary speed, Emory shifted back to Hunter, digging her fangs into Kathleen’s throat as she turned. Kathleen tried to thrust the dagger into her back, but she parried it with one flick of her wrist.

I watched for a moment before walking toward my door. As I was shutting it, I heard Elena whisper, “Go get your man, Auntie.” I shook my head. That girl was a disaster walking, and I absolutely adored the organized chaos that was Elena. I quietly crept down the stairs before slipping out the back door and into the forest. I stopped beneath his tree, looking up, scanning the tree for him but not finding him. “I know you’re here, ‘Sprey. I can feel you.” He sighed as he swung himself down out of the tree. “Hey, Scarlett. I was just leaving. I was hunting a squirrel. They’re fast and good to hunt to keep myself fresh and-”

I smiled gently. “You have a warrior’s body.” I ran my fingers down a particularly ropey scar down her side. “What was this one from?” “Bobby Brown,” she said. “A werewolf that liked to hunt human children. He had a thing for their hearts. He’d barbecue them.” She shuddered with the memory. “He had killed my client’s nephew. Took me a week but I got him. Brought his heart to my client as proof.” She spoke matter of factly, no pride in her voice. She might not be proud of herself, but I was impressed. I had heard of Bobby Brown and had heard of the hunter that got him. I didn’t realize it was her.

“So, let me get this straight, you have no idea what she smelled like but it was distracting enough that her partner managed to get a clean shot on you.” My nails ripped into the arm of my chair and I cursed at losing another chair. I had been going through them like crazy this last week. The older hunter had snuck up on me. The girl with her lithe build and plump lips had drawn my attention and the sound of the shot was what drew me from her siren’s call. If I’d been mortal, I wouldn’t have been able to move fast enough to avoid being shot in the heart. I knew well enough that I was outmatched at that moment and I’d slipped into the darkness of the woods.

I laugh at her before taking a deep breath. “I wish to see Hunter Ysrael of the Cruelcrest Hounds Pack,” I whisper and it seemed like my words were carried by the butterflies into the wind as the wind whistled and rustled through the trees circumvallating us. The next moment I saw the water in the river ripple before my reflection in the water distorts to show Hunter standing in what looks like a mini-library. My heart thuds at the mere sight of him. Realizing how Goddess I miss him so much, and when I saw him in that sexy tight button-up shirt and leather pants I felt myself getting wet.

I take a step, focusing on getting to the pack house where my fate will be decided, when I feel someone cock a gun behind me. “Halt!” My heart flips. That voice. It isn’t the first I was expecting to hear. A thick lump gathers in my throat, and my hands raise above my head as he commanded. I close my eyes as his footsteps begin to echo behind me, making my pulse race erratically. He stands before me, and I raise my head and meet his smoky green eyes. Hunter. The son of Alpha Moon’s third Luna. The strong warrior and biker who handles the pack’s security affairs.

His companions were not far behind him and in the blink of an eye they were gone, leaving their drinks behind. Cathy threw her hands in the air. “Great! Now they have the rest of my money and I have half my orders.” “Teddy get Frank to get three trucks of our best wine and beers over here now.” Teddy went off to carry out his order while Theodore wiped his hands and with a smirk winked at Taylor who despite her boss’s obvious dislike of the man, blushed. Cathy rolled her eyes. The man was a charmer but she knew the truth about him. He was a dangerous Hunter who abducted and slit throats for a living. The kind of person she didn’t want around her.
