I leaned in and whispered urgently to Mirai, “Please, stop joking about marriage. Tiera could kill me with a flick of her wrist!”
Mirai pouted, looking like a child caught in the act. “But, Mr. Karma, you know I need a husband to provide food and shelter,” she said, her voice laced with desperation. “I’ve only got three days before I’m kicked out of my apartment! I didn’t mean to upset her, but isn’t it nice that we’re already sleeping in the same room to get comfortable with each other?”
I pushed her face away gently but firmly. “Why do you have such a weird concept of marriage? If you want food and shelter, get a job!” I snapped.
