Martin laughed softly. “Choice. A pretty word. But the will requires marriage, doesn’t it? Clyde needs a wife. Your family needs money. Suddenly, you two are married. Forgive us if it sounds transactional.”
“It does,” I admitted.
Clyde looked at me.
I continued, “But many marriages in your world are transactional, aren’t they? Business mergers, family names, power, shares. The only difference is Clyde and I are honest enough to know what we’re protecting.”
