Her free hand rested just below her navel, fingers splayed like she was daring me to imagine replacing them with mine. No face in the frame. Just her body. Just for me. My grip tightened on the phone until the case creaked. Blood roared in my ears. Every muscle in my body locked tight. Selfish. Reckless. Inevitable. I typed one-handed, thumb shaking slightly. Overwhelmed by my aura, he obeyed almost instinctively despite his confusion.

“Don’t ever forget.....your name has power.” Her heart stuttered. “And don’t forget,” he added, his thumb brushing lightly against her pulse, “you’re mine.” Her throat went dry. She yanked her hand free, glaring. “You don’t own me, De La Vega.” He leaned closer, his breath hot near her ear. “Then why does it sound like you’re trying to convince yourself?” Her chest tightened. She pushed the door open, stumbled out, and slammed it shut harder than necessary.

“What do you mean that I own it?” Alex straightened his posture and met my gaze with a calm steady stare. “You heard me. Everything Liam has been showing off belongs to you. Everything: the cars, the estate.” For an extended period I simply gazed at him my mind racing unable to comprehend the gravity of what he had just said. I own it but how? How could I possibly own everything that Liam had been flaunting? It was nonsensical. It was illogical. Alex's eyes however never left mine as though he were speaking the truth to me without a shadow of doubt. My throat was dry as I swallowed forcefully. “But…how do I actually own it? How is that possible?”

I managed to choke out, my voice barely above a whisper as I struggled to grasp the implications of his statement. "You're mine. I now own you," he declared, his voice low and steady, devoid of any trace of doubt. "So, I want you to ink something on me that comes straight from your heart." I felt a surge of conflicting emotions swirling inside me – anger, confusion, and a strange sense of vulnerability. "Fine," I responded curtly, my tone laced with defiance. "I'll think of something."
