Chapter 1

Standing at the airport entrance, Emmy looked at the airline’s online booking app, her palms sweating profusely and her heart beating hard in her chest.

“Oh no, why is the earliest flight out of the city at 10 PM?”

She had no idea where she was going, but she was not leaving the city for a vacation or a business trip, but rather, she was running away from her ‘husband’.

Emmy had a striking resemblance to her sister, Lynn and since they were almost of the same age, and in most cases, some people even considered them twins, she was forced to replace her sister and marry the richest young man in the city, Vince Young.

But immediately after the wedding, before they could even consummate their marriage, Vince left the country and went abroad, disappearing for three good years.

In those three years, Emmy lived like a widow, she almost forgot that she had been married until the news of her ‘husband’s’ return reached her ears.

She had married the man in place of her sister and since the man was returning, she planned on leaving the city so that she did not get entangled between her brother-in-law and her sister.

And since they had lied to the man, she had no idea of what he would do to her once he uncovered the truth.

So, in haste, Emmy tried to leave the country, but Lady Luck did not seem to be on her side.

Someone tapped on her shoulder just as she was about to tap the booking button. Her mind was occupied, so she did not bother to look at the person. In frustration, she slapped the hand on her shoulder as she huffed, “Don’t ask me. I don’t know anything, as I am also new here.”

But the person seemed adamant to get Emmy’s attention so the person tapped again.

Emmy turned around angrily. She had just opened her mouth to give the person the lashing of a lifetime when her mouth remained wide open at the sight of the person standing right in front of her.

Her eyes widened at the sight of the tall, well-dressed man in front of her. He was wearing a custom-made, well-tailored suit, that did nothing to hide his well-built body. He exhibited the air of nobility and his jawline was lean and sharp, framing a perfectly symmetrical face, that had on it deep-set eyes that seemed to hold all the secrets of the universe.

Although Emmy had not seen him for three years, that face had left a huge impression on her that she would never be mistaken.

In her momentary shock, she could not help but utter the name that she had not heard nor spoken for the last three years, “Vince.”

Her voice was small, akin to a cat meowing.

Vince looked at her, his eye shimmering with a cold light, “Hmm, seems like you have not forgotten about your husband after all.”

Emmy was shocked. “What are you saying?”

My gosh! What the hell was happening. What a great coincidence!

Emmy could feel sweat trickling her spine all the way to her butt. Her mind seemed to have stopped working and she could not fathom what was happening.

She looked at Vince and asked a question that made her to almost bite her tongue off, “Why are you here? Aren’t you supposed to land tomorrow morning?”

Vince looked at her emotionless and spoke in a cold voice that sent a shiver down Emmy’s throat, “It seems like you do not want your husband to come back home.”

Emmy tussled her hair as she gave out a dry laugh, “Haha, how is that possible? I have been anticipating your coming back every single day. Look, I was even planning on camping here the whole night just so I could be the first to see you when you finally land.”

As she said that, she did not dare look at the man’s eyes for the fear that he might see right through her lies.

Vince looked at her deeply and without uttering any word of whether he believed her or not, his long legs made huge strides as he left the airport.

Having been caught in the act, Emmy did not dare do something stupid as running away. With her head lowered, she silently followed the man.

The journey back to the house was filled with silence and once they arrived, Emmy immediately rushed to the bedroom with her phone as if she had been injected with chicken blood.

She hurriedly closed the door behind and began to dial a number. But to her dismay, the phone rang so many times but no one picked it up.

Just as she was anxiously thinking on what to do, the bedroom door was pushed open from the outside and the man’s towering body entered her line of sight.

Without taking much of a glance at her, his emotionless voice sounded, “Tomorrow morning, we are going to the Civil Bureau Affairs to get our marriage registered.”

“Marr…iage… registered… what… what are you saying?”

“We are getting our marriage certificate!”

Marriage certificate! But she was not the woman he was supposed to marry. She was his sister-in-law, so how could she get a marriage certificate with him? That did not sound right.

Panic was written all over her face but Vince completely ignored it. Unbuttoning his shirt, he looked at Emmy and said flatly, “Now, it is time to consummate our marriage?”

“What!”

Emmy was shocked that the phone in her hands dropped on the ground!

She took a step back as she looked around the room vigilantly, trying to find a way on how she could save herself.

When she saw the man approaching her, she quickly bent down and picked up her phone. With an awkward laugh, she played with the phone in her hands, “Sorry, I had dropped my phone.”

Vince watched her as a hint of coldness flashed through his eyes.

He went to hang his shirt in the wardrobe and seeing that she had an opportunity, Emmy quickly dialed her mother’s number, hoping that she could help her.

But before she could dial the number, a pair of slim fingers snatched the phone from her hands, making Emmy to panic even more.

Vince stared straight at her face and asked, “Is the phone more important than I am?”

Emmy looked at him, her heart pounding. She had to admit that Vince was indeed very handsome. He was actually the most attractive man she had laid her eyes on.

But she had more important things to do than admire the man’s great features. He was her brother-in-law and no matter what, she had no right of lusting after him.

As he suddenly turned his eyes towards her phone, Emmy panicked. She was about to snatch the phone from the man’s hands but when she saw that the screen had already turned dark, she withdrew her hand.

Thank goodness, that was so close!

Vince threw the phone on the coffee table and looked at Emmy deeply before lifting her in his arms.

Having been caught off-guard, Emmy screamed out loud but her screams came to a halt when the man whispered certain words in her ear,

“Now, it is time to make up for our wedding night!”

On the bed, Emmy used all her energy to protest but the man seemed to enjoy teasing her. Just as she was about to die from frustrations, the man got off her and lay beside her, and in a few seconds, deep breaths were heard from the other side of the bed.

Having evaded the disaster, Emmy patted herself on the chest and she soon fell asleep without knowing.

Emmy was in a deep sleep when she felt as if her back was burning. Feeling uncomfortable, she turned around, but the burning sensation did not go away.

She opened her eyes suddenly only to be met with a pair of deep-set eyes that were staring at her coldly.

Without giving her time to adjust her emotions, Vince spoke in a voice that was akin to that of the devil, coming straight from hell, “Dear wifey, should I call you Emmy McKenzie or maybe Lynn Sharma?”

When she heard that, Emmy’s face lost all blood as she looked at Vince dumbly.
