He watched me a while before responding, "Let us play a game." I drew down my eyebrows in curiosity. "You never struck me as one who played games." He laughed, "Well, it depends. Are you in or not?" I nodded, sipping some milk from my glass. "It is called five questions. You get to ask me five questions and I will answer as honestly as I can. And vice versa," he explained. "That is how conversations work. Why does it have to be a game?" I deadpanned. "Because," he shrugged.

“Uh oh. Let’s hear it.” “I feel like there’s a lot about you I don’t know these days. And I want to fix that. So why don’t we play a game of twenty questions.” He raises an eyebrow and folds his arms. “I get to ask you things too?” “Yeah, of course.” “Okay then. Deal.” I grin, pleased with the success. “Okay, tell me about your travels.” “That’s not a question,” he points out. I stick my tongue out at him. “What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever been to?”

I slowly shake my head and softly reply, “I can’t. I’m going to go crazy if I stop.” Kane sighs and puts his hands on my arms. “Stop it. I’m here, so if you have any questions, you can ask me, and I’ll try to answer as best as I can.” Still looking down at the floor, I take a deep breath. Can I actually ask him these questions? I’m sure that he doesn’t know the answers. Kane releases his hold on one of my arms and gently pulls my chin up, so I’m now looking at him. He smiles and repeats himself. “Ask me whatever question you have. I’ll try my best to answer it.”

“What about before?” I sighed, “It bothers you that I haven’t asked you for anything.” “Nothing comes for free,” her voice was pained and hollow. “You either get your payment upfront or later.” I looked out into the night, “Fine. You can pay me.” Her eyes narrowed and she tensed in her seat. “Answer five questions,” I grinned. “One for each thing in the envelope.” She sat back, “What sort of questions?” I lifted a shoulder, “You can choose not to answer them. I’ll just ask another until you answer five. How’s that?”

I asked with a very calm and persuasive voice, like I was talking to an angry toddler. Slowly, he looked up from the papers again and arched an eyebrow at me, a questioning look in his bored eyes. “Why are you suddenly asking me that? Why do you want to know?” He asked. Ugh! I exclaimed inwardly, this is what I had wanted to avoid, a question for a question, Ares was so tiring. “Well, you know…” I didn’t know what to say, but I had to get some information from him, it was a necessity. “Oh common just tell me, are you guys friends?”
