“What’s wrong with my eyes?” Ferna leaned over, squinting at me. “They’re dull, red and spooky. Like you have seen the secrets in the vaults of Orza.” Elsie nodded, stretching the bottle at me. “This will brighten them. It’s made with luminescent dew from the Whispering Orchards.” “I thought that stuff was illegal,” I muttered. Ferna waved her hand dismissively. “Only if you use more than three drops. If you use four, you start hallucinating your worst fears and your nose bleeds stars.”

Then I remembered Bea (my PA) telling me that the milk I drank this morning was the last one. I really wanted strawberry milk. So, against all rules and risking the fury of my PA, my manager and my director, I rushed back to my room and pulled on a pair of denim shorts, a dark oversized hoodie and my special pair of silver glasses. I looked in the mirror and surveyed my appearance. My eyes, which were normally brown, were now black and my blond hair was now a dark brown.
