She Didn't Know He Noticed
he murmured, pulling back slightly.
“Don’t,” I said quickly.
Our eyes locked. The moment stretched. My heart pounded so loud I was sure he could hear it.
“Diane,” he whispered, closer now.
“Yes?”
“You’re shaking again.”
I laughed nervously. “Seems to be a habit.”
He smiled, then his thumb brushed against my knuckles. Soft. Careful.
“Is this okay?” he asked.
I nodded again. “Yeah.”
Our fingers intertwined slowly, like we were both afraid of moving too fast. Neither of us spoke. We didn’t need to. I leaned closer without realizing. Our knees touched. Stayed touching.
