The sky over Aethel-Luna had changed from a scene of migration to a storm of deep anger. The Hollowed, the combined consciousness of the Swarm that had failed to capture a "Neo-Kin" vessel, had formed into a single, screaming force. It was a "Mind-Cyclone," a mile-high whirl of violet static and sharp data shards that turned the air into ozone and memory.

Apparently her kind, she realized, since she couldn’t get the thought out of her head of what it’d be like to be covered by this sexy-as-hell hunk. Thunder suddenly rumbled in the distance, signaling an approaching storm, bringing with it the crisp scent of rain. Tourmaline glanced toward the swollen sky, and then softly, in a tone completely unlike her, she heard herself say, “It looks like a storm’s coming. You wanted to talk, so talk, before it starts to rain.”

The rain was very loud. It hit the windows of the car with a big, heavy sound. Iris Thorne held the steering wheel with both of her hands. Her fingers were white because she was squeezing so hard. She was afraid. The road was very small. It was a narrow road that went along the edge of the land. Next to the road was the big, blue ocean. The water was very agitated today. The wind was blowing hard. The waves were tall. They made big splashes against the black rocks. Iris felt her car shake when the wind hit it. She felt very small.

CHAPTER 2: THE SEA IS NOT SILENT Scene 4: Unnatural Tides By the time Hayate and I reached Stormcrest Tower, the ocean had already climbed three floors. Black water churned behind the lobby windows. Chairs, shattered screens and pieces of the reception desk spun through the flood. Emergency lights flashed beneath the surface, staining the water red. I stepped out of the car. Rain struck my face. The scent of salt hit me so hard my teeth clenched.

I could see my words struck a nerve, the shock in his face is evident. “You’re fucking crazy, I wanna see my girlfriend, NOW!” “That’s not going to happen. Firstly because you have no girlfriend, secondly because the woman you are referring to is now with me and thirdly…well that’s simple, I am karma.” Before Ethan could say another word I surprised him with a throat strike, not one strong enough to kill him although I am more than capable of that, but one which had him gasping for air and rolling around like he was being beheaded.

Then she heard the sound. It was the sound of a winter storm blowing through the forest. As Niamh watched, figures formed from the clouds above.
