Saat pertama kali Ibu Tiri memasuki rumah kami, aku juga menerima uang bulanan yang dikirim ayahku di kampus. Tak disangka, pertemuan pertama kami berubah menjadi mimpi buruk. Di depan seluruh mahasiswa dan dosen, dia menarik rambutku dengan kasar dan memukulku tanpa ampun. "Dasar perempuan nggak tahu malu! Masih muda, mau saja jadi simpanan orang, bahkan berani menggoda pria beristri!" Aku terdiam tanpa bisa membela diri, sementara orang-orang di sekitar menatapku dengan penuh hina. Tidak ada satu pun yang membantuku. Aku dipukuli sampai harus dirawat di rumah sakit, barulah Ibu Tiri tahu siapa aku sebenarnya. Namun, dia tetap tidak peduli, malah berkata, "Aku adalah wanita yang paling dicintai ayahmu, dan mulai sekarang aku adalah ibumu. Ibu memukul anaknya itu hal yang wajar." Dia tidak tahu bahwa cinta sejati ayah sepanjang hidupnya hanyalah ibuku. Ayah menikah lagi hanya karena takut aku merasa kesepian setelah ibu meninggal, dan menggunakan alasan itu untuk mencari pengasuh bagiku.

Sehari setelah aku menikah, aku melihat ayah mertua memukul ibu mertua karena masalah makanan. Aku ingin menghalanginya, tetapi ayah mertua memarahiku karena menganggapku tidak sopan.
