Skimming Through A Book Novels & Stories

I pull one out, glance at the first few pages, and then slip it back into its place before continuing. “Hmmm,” I hummed as I squatted to see the books at the bottom. Odd that it was at the very front of the book. I reached down to pick it up, but a very luxuriant gown happened to flounce by just then, kicking up a draft. The bookmark zipped out of my grasp and danced on the draft, landing a few feet away.

Both were really awkward at each other at first but when they found out that both were reading the same book, they eventually got a comfortable to talk at each other. “So, you also read that book-” “Yeah, I got into it after a friend of mine recommended it to me.” “Isn’t it a great book.” “Yeah, I got hooked on it after reading the first chapter.” “bla-bla-bla” Both continued to talked to each other and enjoyed their conversation. “I was feeling an awkward atmosphere growing between our table so I was gonna try to start a conversation but when you brought out your book, I was just surprised to see a person reading it.” The girl said.

He kept skimming through the magazine on his thigh but they were upside down. I couldn’t hold the scoff in my lips and when he looked at me, I widened my lips without showing my teeth. He didn’t quite like it. But it was enough to get him to read his upside down magazine. The city passed by in a blur as we merged onto the highway. Traffic moved in fits and starts. I found myself hyperaware of every sound, every movement from the man beside me. He was doing it deliberately. Skimming the magazine fast as he casually hits the window with his thump.

Maybe I could even find something in the book about what I was experiencing now. Out of the hundreds of books Hunter and I have accumulated through the years, there were still a lot of them that I haven’t looked at much. When getting a new book, I more or less just skimmed through it to see if it was worth adding to the small library I had in my office.

I missed the book by a finger and it slipped through my hands. I held my left foot and winced in pain. It felt exactly like when you stub your toe on a corner of a table. I held it with my both hands and stood up to grab the heavy book on the ground. I sat down the bed and opened huge hard-bound book and skipped a lot of pages. I skimmed through the chapters where Yvonne appears and tried looking for anything important.

I quickly find the section I was looking for, the history section. Climbing the ladder, I went row by row searching for one particular word but couldn't find it, the library was huge then how come I can't find the exact book I was looking for? I skimmed through all the book in that row to no avail. It's was getting really frustrated and my strength with enthusiasm was weaning out, I turned to leave in anger when I mistakenly pushed down a book from it place, I quickly picked it up to place it back on the counter when I caught a glimpse of it name.

I shifted thoughts of Elijah to the back of my mind as I brought out my torchlight and the book to start finding the exact page again, hoping to see it as soon as possible as I had enough time to myself now. Having brought out the book, I started skimming through carefully and just as I was about to skim past a particular page, I was shocked at what I saw. It sent shivers down my spine, to the extent I almost screamed in shock.

Peeking around the room, I ensure no one is in sight. Climbing onto the chair next to the bookshelf, I run my fingers along the spines of the books. Jessica told me that it would be the one with no writing. Finally, I find it. An old tattered book that has clearly been looked through a thousand times. Standing on my tiptoes, I carefully pull the book off the shelf and slide down onto the chair.
