Chapter 1 

Vanessa's POV

I was on a horse, a beautiful white horse but I was not the one riding it. I had my arm tightly clutched to the rider like my life depended on it.

I couldn't see the rider's face but I knew he was male and he had thick brown hair and fine muscles and he was wearing a very familiar perfume… but I just couldn't place exactly how I knew it at this point in time.

All of a sudden a red car came behind us in hot pursuit. It looked very scary and had a very scary driver too. 

She was female, with hair as red as the car she was recklessly driving. Still somehow the weirdest part was that she could never get to us no matter how she tried to maneuver her vehicle.

This exact scene continued till I started getting weary of it and was seriously wondering when it would all come to an end, then all of a sudden the all too familiar sound of my alarm clock filled every corner of the tiny room.

I shot up immediately, sweating profusely and breathing heavily. I checked the time, it was 6:30 am and I have been dreaming. What kind of disturbing dream was that?!

I did even have the time to ponder on what the dream could mean as I had to start getting ready pronto!

Today was a very important day and I had to be ready by 7am if I planned to get to the airport on time. No it wasn't a job interview or anything, I'd have to be done with my masters degree to start searching for one. 

It was the day I was going to see my best friend for the first time in a year. We were inseparable and have been best friends since forever. 

Our friendship actually runs in the family… our mothers are each other's best friends so they decided to settle down in the same town and the same street so they could spend enough time together… a little bit extreme I know, but I was glad they were that crazy about their friendship…. It was what brought Damon and I together after all.

We were so different in so many ways but this actually brought us closer than imaginable. We always argued and never ran out of things to say to each other, plus we could never stay angry at each other for more than a few minutes.

Somehow we knew how to make each other smile and even shared a promise ring when we were 11 in the presence of our mum's and promised to marry each other when we grew up…. But we were only joking… at least he was.

As expected, we grew up to be inseparable just like our parents but a slight change happened when he became super rich, super fast.

Now he is Damon Philips, the tech genius, the business mogul and the billionaire and he was only just 25 yet he had the world already at his feet.

His Success started when we were still in high school and he was deeply engrossed in his tech thing… he was always the science genius between the two of us while I was totally in love with art.

He developed an application during our last year in high school that was quite popular in school at first. I helped spread the word and encouraged everyone I knew to d******d it.

However, soon after our graduation the application surprisingly became a huge success and everyone wanted it. He got a huge offer to sell the application but denied it and chose to build on it instead, and that was the best decision he ever made!

He easily got funding from this big company and before I could say Jack, he was the next big thing. It all happened in a flash and he didn't even know when success hit him.

He started a company with me as one of the members off course…. Even though I knew nothing about technology… That was probably why I was put in the advertisement section, but I loved it and I got to create some cool designs for the company.

I took it for fun though but it meant everything to him. He decided to focus on his company while I went off to college, still our friendship never suffered, we called and Skyped practically every day and I spent most of my holidays with him.

I had a major crush on him, I never told him though..  didn't want to spoil what we already had… and he was never single anyways. Girls loved him and we're always by his side… well I mean, what's there not to love… he was intelligent, kind, tall and handsome and above all a complete gentleman.

Then immediately after I finished college he had to travel overseas to expand his business and it worked out very well for him. He acquired another application that even became bigger than any he ever had, making him not just a millionaire but a billionaire.

It was almost unbelievable how things always worked out perfectly for him while I was still trying to pursue my dreams in school. Needless to say that I was extremely proud of him and my love for him also grew.

I can't believe it's been so long since I've seen that beautiful face of his. All I just wanted to do was hug him already!

There was no time to bathe if I was going to pick him up on time. I only had time to brush my teeth and put on the closest sweatshirt and jeans I could find.

He never cared about how I looked before… I mean he has seen me worse so there's really nothing there. 

I did manage to comb my hair as fast as I could, then I dashed out of my apartment and got into my very old yellow car. This car had so many memories, especially of the two of us and I took extreme care of it.

The drive to the airport was about 30 minutes and I tried to remember why I agreed in the first place to this….. oh yeah, I wanted to be the first person to see him.

Plus he wasn't one to have security personnels and things like that, it came with the type of work he did… he was usually behind the computer making billions then out there in the world socializing and the selfish me loved that it was just the two of us against the world.

I got to the airport earlier than his flight arrived but that was how I planned it.

I picked the sign I had kept in my car the night before that read "My Billionaire Bestie, Go Back To Where You Came From".

It was just something we always did and it usually meant the opposite. Like we have said so much "I hate you" to each other even though we mean the exact opposite.

Finally it was announced that his flight had just landed and I stood up proudly with my sign waiting for my best friend… the only man I have always loved.

It wasn't long till I saw him, looking super jet lagged but incredibly fit! My heart skipped a beat. How come he looks more handsome than ever?

He was growing a beard that suited his face just perfectly and he was dressed in a casual outfit as always. He was never the suit and tie kind of fashionista except on special occasions.

Immediately he saw me. He smiled that smile that I have imagined a million times in my dreams. Then when he read my sign he grinned so hard I feared he might actually hurt himself and ran towards me like I was the only person in the airport. 

He hugged me tight and I hugged him more fiercely. Gosh! I have missed that perfume.

"Vanessa! I have missed you!" He screamed. 

I could swear I cried tears of Joy that very moment! His voice was just as I always remembered, soothing and deep.

"I missed you more Damon," I said. 

We were hugging for what seemed like forever until someone tapped his shoulder and coughed lightly to announce their presence.

We pulled out of the hug and I raised my head to look at the unwanted intruder. 

Behold it was a tall, slim, gorgeous lady with radiant red hair and beautiful clear skin. To my utter surprise Damon took the hand he just wrapped around me behind her waist and held her close as if he was trying to make a point.

I could not fathom what was going on here. I finally noticed the ring on her finger but I didn't want what I was thinking to be true. Then he spoke those words,

"Vanessa boo, meet Jessica, my Fiance…."

Then my world crumbled before my very eyes.
