Alpha's Regret After I Died
It was a poem, soft, stupid lines, and then the meaning shot through me like an arrow.
Tonight, below the silver moon.
An arch of roses, red in bloom.
No bell shall ring, no witness stand,
Just whispered vows, and steady hands.
Where shadows sleep, the truth will wake,
The heart is risked, the mask will break.
Come when the night begins to breathe,
Alone, my love—no eyes but me.
I stared at the page, my throat closing up. To anyone else, it was just a lovey poem. But I knew better.
