It immediately adhered and she could see that his healing was starting again. That was good. The bandage would stay in place and dissolve around the wound as it healed. It would act like a second skin.

"I'll be back." He left with my blade and returned with cloths and a bucket of water. He sat on the floor beside me. He took my arms and dipped them in the lukewarm water. "Does it hurt?" I was too busy drowning in my thoughts to be able to think of an answer. He used his hand to pour water on my arm to rinse of the blood. He grabbed a cloth and wrapped it around my arm and did the same for the other. "This will do to help with the bleeding while I go to get some bandages and disinfectant from a pharmacy."

I had no time for this. I dropped to the ground and tore off my shirt. The fabric was already shredded from the branches, but I ripped it into strips as fast as my shaking hands would allow. I wrapped one strip tightly around my leg just above the knee, pulling it as tight as I could stand. The pressure was agonizing. Jenny wasted no time searching for something to staunch Steve's bleeding. Though the injury was not as severe as it could have been, he had already lost a considerable amount of blood.
