You're not terrified that people will abandon you, and you're not clinging to someone because you can't picture your life without them.
When you're used to saying your goodbyes, you're used to being alone. You may still be sad or upset, but it never takes over your life, never prevents you from recognizing you're a person worth loving, and never causes you to doubt yourself.
When you become used to saying goodbye, you get used to leaving as well. When you are abused, you become accustomed to going away. When something is no longer healthy for you, you know how to disengage.
