A Secretary Affair
“Just tell me the ritual straight, Sheara, because I’m really scared right now and I can’t handle vague instructions or hidden meanings. I need to know exactly what we’re walking into.”
She stood up too and stepped close until she was standing right in front of me. She didn’t hug me or pull me close like I half expected her to—she just held my face gently with both hands, her thumbs brushing over my cheeks as she looked right into my eyes. I felt a tear slide down my skin and realized only then that I was crying, though I didn’t remember feeling them fall.
“The ritual itself is simple to explain, but it will hurt more than anything you’ve ever felt,” she said quietly.
