he said quietly, “that we didn’t just expose corruption—we became the story people needed?”
“How so?”
“Everyone loves a scandal. Fewer people love the truth behind it.”
I handed him a cup. “Then maybe it’s our job to remind them.”
He took the tea, fingers brushing mine. That same static. The same question hanging in the air.
“You always say that so easily,” he murmured. “Like you’re not afraid of what it costs.”
“I am afraid,” I admitted. “But fear doesn’t erase conviction.”
He smiled faintly. “You make me believe in impossible things.”
