MELODY POV

They were intoxicating!

"Of course, Signora. He will be alright." Douglass took a defensive step backward, head bowed softly on his bulky body. Even though he submitted, something about the way he said it still ticked me off. Or I was being moody for no reason?

I walked to my bed and pulled on my robe before covering myself.

"Please have these taken care of." I pointed to the clothes scattered on my bedroom floor, and he bowed again.

“We should leave. Momma is surely losing her mind right now.” I said softly, rounding the bed to put the gun back into the compartment before kicking it shut.

“It’s unlike you to miss.” Douglass was my bodyguard. And I appreciated him for his honesty. But at times it was utterly unnecessary, times like now when my body was still vibrating from the things that boy did to me. And now, he was still perched by the broken window, still staring outside. I knew he was thinking of all the ways he could end the life of a poor man who had to drop from the sky, naked, and with a bleeding leg.

“You said it yourself, things may not look pretty for us if we finish him off. I don't want to have the feds breathing down my neck and connecting his death to me. I have a shit on my plate with the Mexican Cartels. Rothschild is miserable enough. Let’s spare him.” I left it at that and walked into my closet feeling the tension seeping through the pores of my skin.

I liked Douglass, hence the reason I chose him over hundreds of potential bodyguards back at the base.
