And then I said,
“But truthfully... I blame myself most. I’m scared, Lu. Afraid that if you heal and remember everything… you’ll hate me. For letting you go.”
“What’s the point of life if I lose you again?”
I pressed my forehead to hers, now cold like morning dew. “Please... stay. For me. For us.”
She said nothing.
I felt lost. The world turned black. The wind ghosted by uncaring, dragging dried leaves and whispers of sorrow that hung on twisted branches.
I lifted my head slightly, gazing up at the faint stars above. The moon hung there—distant, cold, silent.
I didn’t even realize I was whispering. “Help me… whoever’s out there… Hear me…”
