Broken Promise
Vaughn immediately noticed.
“Ali? What’s wrong?” he asked, concern etched in every line of his face.
She clenched her teeth, trying to hide it. “I’m okay… really. Just a little dizzy.”
Vaughn didn’t buy it. “Dizzy? No, you’re pale. We should go home.”
“No… I’m fine. Just… need a moment.” Her voice wavered, betraying the calm she tried to project.
The pain hit again, stronger this time, radiating through her chest and stomach. She could feel her knees weaken. Ali knew she couldn’t let Vaughn see this. Not yet. Not until she had a moment to steady herself.
