Kate POV (brief summary of Alpha Kate)

            As I considered my life up to this point, I recognized the opportunities I had at a young age.  I had been trained to be a strong Alpha for my pack the Golden Moon Pack.  I was the only daughter of my parents, and I was raised to train every day and learn everything about Pack life so I would be a strong leader.

            Imagine my surprise when I learned my father had a daughter before me with someone who was not my mother.  Someone else’s mate, no less.  Then I learned that there was a twin somewhere out there.  We were trying to find her when circumstances resulted in the sibling I knew being murdered.  As we make our way around the challenges in finding the second twin, I found my second chance mate, Colby.  He’s everything I could have hoped for.  He is also the guardian of his daughter’s niece Amelie.

            Through my friend Drake, who was Lucy’s mate (the first sister we found), is likely the mate of the twin.  Historically twins were mated to the same mate.  Drake became entrenched in finding what he believes is his second mate.  When we do find her, he rushes to see her side and confirms she is his mate.  Another DNA test is performed but the results shock all that we believe and expect.

            To pick up the story, we are starting at my Luna ceremony.  I have decided to retain my Alpha status of my own Pack, the Golden Moon Pack.  And I will become Luna to the Silver Crescent Pack, which is Colby’s Pack.  I am excited at what the future holds for Colby, Amelie and I as we move toward our future.

Chapter 1

Kate POV

            We caught an early flight out, leaving the Golden Moon Pack, to get back to the Silver Crescent Pack by early afternoon.  My Luna ceremony was scheduled for this evening, and we had much to do to pull it off in time. 

I had a hairstylist and makeup artist waiting to do hair and makeup for my mom, me and of course Amelie wouldn’t be left out.  Amelie was Colby’s, my second chance mate, niece.  Her parents had been sadly killed in a rogue attack when she was a toddler. 

We have a gorgeous dress picked out for Amelie – she will look like a princess.  I haven’t seen my mom’s dress yet, but I knew it would be appropriate for the occasion.

            While we were at the Golden Moon Pack to finish the business of hosting a ceremony to install co-Alpha Reid to the Pack as well as Luna Mary, Beta John, and our new Gamma Edward, I had bought a new dress for the Luna ceremony.  As is the case with ceremonies the Luna traditionally wears a long gown.  I decided to go with white for the Luna ceremony.  A white gown with a slit up my right leg to mid-thigh.  There was gold trim on the dress around the waist and the neckline.  The front was up to the neck while the back was open to the waist.  And of course, I’d top it off with black heels.  It was gorgeous and I couldn’t wait for Colby to see me in it.

            Now that we were back to my new home, we had additional support to look after Amelie so Colby and I could get that privacy we had been looking forward to.  However, we were quickly separated when we arrived home so I could get ready for this evening’s ceremony, and he could deal with some Pack business before getting ready himself.

            I grabbed a quick shower before sitting down to get my hair done.  I had decided on my traditional waves.  Colby loved my hair down.  Makeup was a little more than I usually wear.  I went with smoky eyes, more contouring and blush to ensure I stood out in the evening dusk.  Most ceremonies took place at dusk so that the Pack could enjoy a Pack run.  Having kept my secret from everyone, I knew it would be a great surprise that I would join in on the run tonight.  I had been injured in a previous fight and my leg had been damaged.  We weren’t sure I would be able to shift again.  Colby had thoughtfully suggested we postpone it, but that won’t be necessary after the good news I received from my doctor yesterday.

            As I finish with my makeup and hair, mom is next.  She is stunning with her hair up in a classic bun with some hair pulled down to frame her face.  Her makeup was more subtle than mine and she looked beautiful.  And finally, Amelie had hers done in a matching bun to mom, of course.  She also wanted makeup to which I said she could only have lip gloss.  She was far too young to be wanting makeup.  I think if we put makeup on her Colby would have a heart attack.

            My parents and Colby’s parents hit it off right away.  They had lots in common and were already talking about getting together for holidays and considering taking a trip away together.  To say my mom was excited would be an understatement.

            We had ordered refreshments for the room as well.  We had taken over one of the spare rooms and wanted to snack before the evening’s event.  As we snack on some sandwiches and cut up vegetables, Amelie decides she wants to go play in her room.  Reminding her not to mess up her hair, she runs off and promises she will come when called to get ready shortly.

            As the hair stylist and makeup artist collect their belongings and head out, mom and I sit and look at each other.  I see mom’s eyes start to tear up when I tell her quickly, “Stop – I don’t want to ruin my makeup!” I say.  “I know, I know, Kate but I’m so proud of you and so happy for all that you are gaining being mated with Colby,” my mom murmurs. 

            Taking her hands as we sit on the couch, “I’m beyond happy mom.  More than I could have ever imagined or expected.  Colby keeps me grounded; Amelie completes my life.  I know she’s Colby’s niece, but I feel like she is our baby girl,” I share with my mom.  “I can see that, and we love that little girl as if she were our own.  She’s a beautiful soul and I can’t wait to watch her grow up,” my mom adds. 

            As we sit there and talk about her upcoming visits, she teases me about the marking later tonight.  I can’t wait to be Colby’s and I have no reservations.  If anything, I’m frustrated we had to wait so long.  But I have left my Pack in a good place and am excited for how we will continue to grow and prosper.

            As we look at the clock, we see it’s time to get our dresses on.  Mom heads back to the room she is sharing with dad.  She will get dressed there and will then help dad get himself ready as well.  Calling to Amelie she comes racing in, hair still intact but missing some lip gloss.  She asks for more, which I promise her she can have once she gets dressed.  We have her in a gorgeous black dress with a white trim around the bottom, the collar, and a bow around the waist.  The dress is ruffled on the bottom and comes down to her knees.   Needless to say, a respectable dress for a little girl.  Slipping on her white ankle socks and her black patent leather shoes, she spins around showing me her dress.  She’s gorgeous, as always.  Giving me a big hug, she goes back to her playroom to finish putting her things away.

            As I look around the room, I move over to get my dress on.  Slipping off my robe, I move forward stepping into my dress.  As I pull the zipper up behind me at the waist, I feel it caress my skin like a glove.  Moving toward where my shoes are, I slip my feet in them and go to look in the mirror.  I’m happy with the dress I selected and can’t wait for the moment it comes off later tonight. 

            Moving out of the room, I call for Amelie who comes running out of her room.  Mom and dad have already gone down to where the ceremony will be hosted.  I take Amelie’s hand as we move toward the stairs and head down to the ceremony hall.  As we get downstairs it is relatively silent in the Pack house.  Unusual but most Pack members will be attending the ceremony.  We expect close to a thousand members in attendance. 

            As we walk through the breezeway that attaches to the ceremony hall Amelie squeezes my hand.  She has to walk in ahead of me and she was a little nervous doing so.  Stopping for a minute I bend down to her eye level.  “What’s wrong sweetheart?” I ask.  “What if I make a mistake or I fall?” she asks.  “Then you get right back up and keep going, Amelie.  You won’t make a mistake, I promise.  Colby will be waiting for you at the other end.  You will be able to see him before you walk out, okay?” I tell her.  Nodding her head she takes a deep breath, “Okay,” she says.

            Smiling I stand up and we continue to the hall.  As we arrive two warriors are standing at the closed doors.  Smiling at both Amelie and I, one of the warrior’s moves toward Amelie to take her hand.  Smiling back at me Amelie gets ready to walk through the doors.  She runs over and I bend down so she can give me a kiss on the cheek.  Running back, she’s ready to go down to Colby.

            The warriors open the doors, and I can hear the gasps and sighs at Amelie as she walks through the door completely regal in her effort.  Before I know it, I hear laughing, at what I suspect was her deciding to run down the aisle to Colby. 

            Taking a deep breath, myself, as the moment had come, I stepped toward the doors.  I heard the ahhs coming from the crowd as I walked through but all I could focus on was Colby standing at the end of the aisle with Amelie in his arms.  As I moved slowly up the aisle Colby put Amelie down and she went to sit with Colby’s parents. 

            As I arrived at the end of the aisle and stood in front of Colby, he took both my hands in his, leaning forward and whispering, “You are gorgeous, and I love you Kate,” he says.  Before I can respond to what he just said, the Elders begin the ceremony.  As I go through the vows and commit myself to the protection and prosperity of the Pack, I also promise to serve the Pack members. 

            As Colby slices his hand, I slice mine and we grasp each other’s hands.  As soon as our palms come together, I am overwhelmed momentarily with all the mind-linking from the Silver Crescent Pack members.  As they quiet down and I put my barriers in place I smile at Colby as he leans forward to give me a soft kiss on the lips.  Before he moves back, I hold onto him for a moment longer, whispering back to him, “I love you too.”.  The look in his eyes is my everything.  He has tears shining in his eyes as he leans forward to give me a tight hug.

            As we turn back to the crowd, Colby puts his hand at my waist and leads me through the crowd congratulating us and welcoming me as Luna to the Pack.  As he touches my bare back, he leans back only now getting the full effect of the dress. I can feel his hand clench slightly behind my back as he lets me know he is loving the dress.

            At the point we would call for the Pack run; Colby turns to me planning to tell me to sit this one out.  As he turns, I put my finger on his lips nodding I was going to shift.  A look of concern crossed him face, until I mind-linked him, “I got the go ahead yesterday, let’s shift and take our Pack on a run,” I say.  He nods, pride beaming off his face as he calls to those wanting to go on the Pack run to get ready now. 

            Moving forward I go behind a tree to undress, while Colby follows me and does the same.  The first shift after an injury is a little painful but once we shifted, Shelby was ecstatic to be in wolf form.  Colby’s wolf loved seeing Shelby and they nuzzled each other first before we came out from around the tree.

Who is the message from?” he asks sitting up and kissing my shoulder.

            “It’s a message from Drake.  They got the DNA results back.  Lucy or rather Maddie isn’t my biological sister.”.
